Steven Blue

Steven Blue, 57, Warsaw, passed at 12:03 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1960, in Rochester, to Boyd and Bessie (Shepherd) Blue.

Blue had done transmission work in Wabash and Peru. He loved fishing. He was a WheelStand National Champion with his Camaro.

He is survived by his mother, Bessie Blue, Warsaw; his father, Boyd Blue, Muncie; son, Greg (Melissa) Blue, Butte, Mont.; brothers: Ron (Teresa) Blue, Pierceton; Rick Blue, Merrillville; four grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-11 a.m., Wednesday, May 2, at King Memorial Home in Mentone. A graveside service will follow at Mentone Cemetery. Pastor Denny Bollenbacher will officiate.


Donald Ralph Taylor

Donald Ralph “Don” Taylor, 77, Warsaw, passed away at 7:21 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2018, at his home. He was born July 13, 1940, in Jollytown, Penn. to Rex and Nellie Mable (Campbell) Taylor.

He graduated from West Greene High School in Greene County, Penn., Grace College in Winona Lake, and received his Masters of Divinity from Grace College. He grew up in Pennsylvania and lived in Michigan before moving to the Warsaw area in the early 1980’s from Flora. On Nov. 21, 1989, in Warsaw, he was married to Lee Ann (Sturgill) Peters, who survives. He formerly served as pastor in Trout Lake, Mich. and Flora, taught school in Michigan, and retired from Kosciusko County Maintenance Dept.

He was a member of the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church where he was part of the Fight Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Ann Taylor; seven children; 13 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters.

A celebration of life gathering will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake. Memorial services will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday in the church.

Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 15, Warsaw is in charge of all arrangements.

Neva Irene Akers, 92, Warsaw passed away at 2:55 p.m., April 30, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw.

She was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Paintsville, Ky. to Edgar and Grace (Whitaker) Hannah. On Oct. 28, 1942, in Paintsville, Ky. she was united in marriage to Grundy Logan Akers, who preceded her on May 10, 1993.

She formerly worked for Gatke Corporation and Warsaw Coil. She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Silver Lake.

She is survived by her children; Joyce Ann (Vern) Prater, Warsaw; Linda Lou (Rick) Cook, North Webster; Hazel Akers, Warsaw; and James Henry (Barb) Akers, Warsaw. She is further survived by five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her husband; sons; William Logan and Jerry Dale; along with granddaughters Elizabeth Prater and Cheryl Blair; and great grandchildren Christopher Jefferson and Callie Akers.

Visitation will be held in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel from 5-7 p.m., Warsaw Wednesday, May 2. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 3, in Hillcrest Cemetery in Pierceton with Pastor William Whitaker officiating.

Barbara Jean Horn, 68, Warsaw, passed away at 2:29 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2018, at Fort Wayne’s Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1950, in Hinton, W. Va., the daughter of Melvin George Gill and Kathleen (Adkins) Gill. On Feb. 1, 1966, she was united in marriage to Yancy Horn, Jr. To their union, two sons were born.

She volunteered at the Salvation Army Store, the Beaman Home, and at Grace Village. She enjoyed watching cooking shows and gardening of both flowers and vegetables. She liked all kinds of crafts, loved Gospel music and attended God’s Highway to Heaven Church when she could.

In addition to her husband, Yancy Horn, Jr., Warsaw, those who survive include son, John (Korrina) Horn and grandsons, Jabob and Jesse Horn, all of Brooksville, Fla. Also surviving are her three sisters: Nancy (Larry) Duty, Van Lear, Ky.; Helen (Ron) Hall, Pierceton; and Kitty (Tammy) Oliver, Jacksonville, Fla.

She was preceded by a son, James Edward; her parents, Melvin and Kathleen; and by two brothers, Melvin and David Gill.

Friends may join family for a graveside service at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 7 in Pierceton’s Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to God’s Highway to Heaven Food Bank, 555 Webber Street, Warsaw, IN 46580.

Dennis Gail Lundgren — UPDATED

Dennis Gail Lundgren, 78, died April 29, 2018 at Fort Wayne’s VA Northern Indiana Hospital. He was born in a two-room log cabin in Pembine, Wisc. on April 15, 1940. His parents, Martha Filbert and Gail Lundgren, and his brother, Larry Lundgren, Sr., all preceded him in death.

Mr. Lundgren attended schools in Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1958. He served in the United States Air Force for eight years and was called to Vietnam twice before being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. During this time, he continued his education through the United States Armed Forces Institute (USAFI).

After serving, he knocked around the trailer industry and owned WynDell Corporation. He held positions of service and sales manager and was a national service representative for several companies. In the mid-1970s, he took up computer programming and system design. He retired from ITT ACD in January 1996. At that time, he was assisting his wife with the manufacture of custom window treatments and selling window blinds. He was commonly known around Warsaw as the “Blind Man.” He was lifetime member of VFH Post 1126 and American Legion Post 49 as well as a Mason.

In 1983, Dennis Lundgren married Cathy Shear, who survives him in Warsaw. They have a loving, blended family which includes children: Lori (Michael) Coen, Peoria, Ariz.; Leslie (Mark) Saiz, Batavia, Ill.; Christopher Aker, Warsaw; Courtney (Troy) King, Warsaw; and Christine Ballinger, Kalamazoo, Mich.; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  A sister, Joan Erwin, South Bend, also survives.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw. Being fond of wood crafting, Mr. Lundgrenbuilt a solid pine, pegged box without nails or screws in which he will be cremated, per his wishes. Burial with military honors will be held privately in Oakwood Cemetery following cremation.

Colie McCool, 86, Warsaw, formerly of Pierceton, passed away at 6:50 p.m., Monday April 30, 2018, in Mason Heath and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw. He was born on Oct. 30, 1931, Fort Knox, Miss.

Edna Brandon was united in marriage to Colie McCool on May 12, 1949 in Columbus, Miss. She preceded him in 2013.

He worked for Warsaw Plating for 35 years and served as a Union Steward for 20 years.

He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

Mr. McCool is survived by six children: Bobby (and spouse Susie) McCool, Georgia; Mary Helen (Johnny) Isaac, Warsaw; James McCool, Warsaw; Janice Osborne, Warsaw; Barbara Isaac, Warsaw; and Jimmy (Michelle) Wolfe, Arcola, Ill.; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He was the youngest of 23 children.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Thursday May 3, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday May 4, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Pastor Jim Baughman will officiate.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.

Marjorie S. Love, 90, Warsaw, passed away AT 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born March 4, 1928, to Wesley and Edna (Neer) Plotner in Leesburg.

She was united in marriage to Devon Love on Sept. 6, 1951, in Mishawaka. He passed away July 20, 2011.

Mrs. Love graduated Atwood High School and was the head cook for Washington Elementary School. She attended Dutchtown Brethren Church, Warsaw and First Christian Church, Warsaw.

She loved the outdoors, camping, bowling, gardening, crafts, socializing and serving coffee at Court of Colfax. Most of all she loved making cookies and being with her grandchildren.

Marjorie Love is survived by her two sons: David (Chris) Love, Middlebury; and Dale Love (Alicia), Claypool; a daughter, Brenda (Duane) Roberts, Pierceton; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Love, Warsaw; a sister, Barbara Hedington, Warsaw. Eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Devon Love (July 20, 2011) son Carl Love (Sept. 18, 2015) and one grandson, Casey Roberts (Feb. 23, 2017).

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 5, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

A funeral service will also be held at noon, Saturday, with Pastors Jack Worth and Gary Boschain officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Ernest A. Engelberth

Ernest “Ernie” A. Engelberth, 90, Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, passed away at midnight, Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Grace Village Health Care.

He was born on July 15, 1927, in Hammond, to Henry Engelberth and Elizabeth (Kaiser) Engelberth. On Jan. 25, 1953, he was married to Norma Jean (Leedy) Engelberth, who survives. Together they had six children.

Mr. Engelberth was a 1945 graduate of North Webster High School in North Webster. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1946 and served during WWII until his honorable discharge in August 1947. He was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church in Winona Lake, Indiana, and longtime member of the Gideons International. His life was well lived, and he was a man never afraid of a hard day’s work. He was a lifetime dairy farmer, farming the majority of his life in the Kosciusko County area.   He will be remembered for his work ethic, his character, and his dedication to his family. He will be dearly missed by all.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Norma Jean Engelberth, Winona Lake; three daughters: Susan (Mike) Heintz, Sidney, Ohio; Connie (husband Mike) Lehe, Wolcott; Karen Engelberth (significant other Sean Barrows), Parker, Colo.; and three sons: Lloyd (Nora) Engelberth, Greenwood, Wisc.; Doug (Ann) Engelberth, Fort Wayne; Tom (Ramona) Engelberth, Edgerton, Ohio. He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; brother: Otto (Mary) Engelberth, Essex Junction, Vt.; and his sister: Dorothy (Dale) Hostetler, Yakima, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers: Al, Arthur, Ted, Paul, Henry, and Bill.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, May 6, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. There will also be time for visiting an hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m., Monday, May 7, at the funeral home.

His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 7, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Tom Miller. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.

C. Colleen Slone, 87, Warsaw, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018, in Mason Health Care and Rehabilitation, Warsaw. She was born May 25, 1930, in Auxier, Ky. to Joseph and Lucinda (Slaven) Wilson.

Colleen Slone was united in marriage to Isaac “Ike” Slone in Prestonsburg, Ky., March 7, 1953. Mr. Slone preceded her Feb. 7, 2013. She was formerly employed by Owens-Illinois/Kimble Glass of Warsaw as a packer and retired with 30 years of service.

She is survived by her children John Slone, Warsaw; Mark Slone, Pierceton; Donna (Steve) Burke, Warsaw; and Diana (Donald) Dugan, Rochester. Furthermore, grandchildren: Sara Yarber, Bourbon; Jason (companion Beth) Slone; Ryan Slone and Kevin (companion Nikki Slone), all of Pierceton; and great grandchildren Serenity and Isaac Slone and Allison Yarber, survive. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by three sisters and six brothers.

Alice Ann Neace, 61, Warsaw, passed away at 3 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 6, 1956, in Breathit County, Ky. to Braddoc Neace and Rachel (Combs) Neace.

She was a resident of Kosciusko County, for the past year, moving here from Kokomo. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend. She dearly loved her family and especially her dog Baby “Kitty Brown” She was also known for being a worry wort, and a loving, caring, and sweet person who loved God.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: David (Krista) Neace, Mentone; Gary (wife Krista) Neace, Warsaw; two daughters: Rachel Neace, Warsaw; Michelle Fulton, Warsaw; and 14 grandchildren. She also leaves behind four sisters: Sara (Edward) Jewell, Rochester; Ellen Neace, Kentucky; Rhoda Neace (companion Jim Stahl), Plymouth; and Laura Vell Neace, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Codell Neace.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Her funeral service will follow immediately at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Mark Burritt of Harrison Center Church.

Bobby M. Mathews

Bobby M. Mathews, 91, Warsaw, passed away at 5:45 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018, in his residence. Heaven gained an incredible soul and earth lost one of the greats. He was born to Harvey and Wilma (Tully) Mathews on May 20, 1926.

A lifetime Warsaw resident he was united in marriage to Nila Rhodes Oct. 21, 1949. He faithfully served his Country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 in Battery A, 530th Felid Artillery Battalion as a Private First Class (Gun Crewman) in the European Theater during WW II.

He was a member of the Warsaw Elks Lodge #802, Warsaw American Legion Post #49, he officiated Warsaw High School track and volleyball for many years, was a season ticket holder for Warsaw Basketball for 30 years and a Wagon Wheel Playhouse season ticket holder for 20 years. He was formerly employed by Flexhaust of Warsaw and retired with 28 years of service.

Survivors include his daughter Luann (Mark) Smothers, Roanoke; grandchildren: James Bashop, Roanoke; Jacqueline (Aaron) Zuercher, Warsaw; Kelsey Smothers, Harlan; Zach Smothers, Spencerville; and Tylker and Bryce Smothers, both of Roanoke; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded by his brother and sister-in law William and Roma Mathews.

Calling hours are scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 11, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. His funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 12, with calling one hour prior to the service in the Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Milford Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Warsaw American Legion Post#49, VFW Post #1126 and U.S. Army Funeral Honors Detail. Pastor Tim Sprankle will officiate.

Wayne E. Marshall, 80, Warsaw, passed away at 1 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse. He was born Nov. 17, 1937, in Wabash, to Marion and Dorothy (Bolinger) Marshall.

A 60-year resident of Kosciusko County, he was united in marriage to Helen Hyslop, who preceded him Sept. 17, 2008. Mr. Marshall was a farmer with over 50 years of service with Creighton Brothers prior to his retirement.

He survived by his children, including Tammy (David) Swick, Lori (Rex) Holloway, Terri Marshall, Michelle (Terry) Roberts, Robert (Tonya) Marshall, and Brian (Lisa), sisters Linda (Dave) Cripe, Joyce (Jack) Hicks and brother Larry (Karen) Coble and Donnie Coble. In addition, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren survive. Furthermore, he was preceded by one daughter, one granddaughter, two great grandchildren and several siblings.

Betty Lucille Alderfer Schuman

Betty Lucille Alderfer Schuman, 79, Winona Lake, passed away at 12:40 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.

She was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Argos, to Harold Swihart and Helen M. (Miller) Swihart. On June 28, 1957, she was married to Forest “Frosty” Alderfer, he passed away on June 18, 1987. She then re-married on Sept. 30, 2000, to Larry Schuman, he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2005.

She was a 1957 graduate of Plymouth High School and has was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 54 years. She worked at Owens Grocery Store in Warsaw, for a number of years and worked as an administrator for 20 years at First National Bank. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Over the years she had sewn many projects for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be forever loved and dearly missed.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Terri (husband Pat) Musto, Lakeville, Minn.; and Barb (husband Chris) Ballinger, Warsaw. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Gina Musto, Trevor Ballinger and Jeffrey Ballinger; four great grandchildren: Laila, Olivia, Ellie and Rhett Ballinger; and fourteen step-grandchildren. She also leaves behind five step-children: Keith, Duane, Nelson, and Chris Schuman; and Jana MacFarlane; brother: Richard Swihart, Machesney Park, Ill.; and half-brother: Rex Tumbleson, South Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth, and officiated by Reverend Kip Cone. Arrangements are entrusted with Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

James Hale

James Hale, Warsaw, 43, passed away at 4:33 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Rochester’s Woodlawn Hospital.

Hale, the son of Frank Hale and Mary (Pratt) Baker, was born on March 17, 1975, in Warsaw; his parents survive. He was a graduate of Whitko High School and had worked for Warsaw Coil and Warsaw Foundry.

He was a die-hard Colts fan and enjoyed wrestling. He loved people, music and time spent with family. He enjoyed joking with people and was Life Care Center’s Resident Council President, responsible for coordinating and planning resident activities. He was also a man of strong Christian faith, having given his heart to the Lord after an accident left him partially paralyzed more than twenty years ago.

In addition to his parents, three siblings survive: Sarah (Jack) Abbott, Warsaw; Richard (Ashley) Hough, Warsaw; and Amber Hale, Snyder, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Those who preceded in death include his grandparents, two aunts and his uncle, Ronnie Pratt with whom he was quite close.

Friends may join family for a time of viewing and to share memories from 10 a.m.-noon, Friday, May 11 in Titus Funeral Home. Pastor Dave Hummel will officiate the funeral which begins at Noon. Burial will be in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.
