Steven Phillip “Steve” Rookstool, 48, Cromwell, passed away at 2:44 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart. He was born on June 23, 1969, in Warsaw, IN to Terry Allen and Ruthie Mae (Ervin) Rookstool.

He attended Wawasee High School in Syracuse and was a lifetime Syracuse and Cromwell area resident. He was formerly employed at Guardian Industries in Ligonier for nine years and Supreme Corporation in Goshen.

He is survived by his son, Trey Rookstool, Syracuse; parents, Terry and Ruthie Rookstool, Warsaw; maternal grandmother: Frances Ervin, Ligonier; niece, Ruby Martin, Cromwell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa Marner.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse,. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Brad Cox of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N S.R. 15, Warsaw.

Ralph Nibert

Ralph S. Nibert, 79, Warsaw, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in Peabody Retirement Center, North Manchester.

He was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Parkersburg, W.Va. to Charles Lewis and Rose Anna (Aippersbach) Nibert.

He was united in marriage to Rebecca Kae Scott on Nov. 14, 1981, in Ashland, Ohio. He was employed by Ashland County Sheriff’s Department as deputy sheriff, attaining the rank of sergeant and retired in 1989 with 15 years of service. In addition, he was employed by Chore-Time Brock and Kosciusko Community Hospital. He was a member of the Milford First Brethren Church and the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Nibert, Warsaw; children, Holly (Fred) Wright, Litchfield, Ohio, Karen Williams, Ashland, Ohio, Joshua (Jessica) Nibert, Warsaw, and Nathan (Stacey) Nibert, Milford. Furthermore, brothers, Robert (Lois) Nibert, North Canton, Ohio, William Ray Nibert, Youngstown, Ohio, Harry (Linda) Nibert, Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Stella (Greig) Olson, Portland Ore.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive.

Services will be held at Milford First Brethren Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, with Pastor Lee Compson officiating. Interment services will be private. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is entrusted with arrangements.

Maggie V. ‘Videll’ Stelzer

Maggie V. “Videll” Stelzer, 94, Warsaw, passed away at 4:28 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at her home. She was born on Aug. 6, 1923, in Brenham, Texas to Thomas Lee and Ethel (Webb) Pittman.

She grew up and graduated in 1942 from Milford High School in Milford, Texas. She was married on March 28, 1944, to Harold Eugene Stelzer who preceded her on Jan. 15, 1998. She was a homemaker, formerly worked as a seamstress, and as a store manager for University City Store in San Diego, Calif. She lived most of her life in the San Diego area before moving to Warsaw ten years ago from Henderson, Nev.

She is survived by her daughter, Patti L. Bice-Archer, Wichita Falls, Texas; two sons: Rodney J. (Elizabeth), Warsaw; Terry E. (Kristi) Stelzer, Auburn, Calif.; eleven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister: Marie Dotson, Austin, Texas; brother: Richard Pittman, Grand Prairie, Texas.

She was preceded by her parents, husband, sister, and four brothers.

No public services will be held at this time. Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 15, Warsaw is in charge of arrangements.

Gabino Munguia, 61, Warsaw, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, in his residence. He was born Oct. 13, 1956, in Puebla, Mexico to Cristobal Aca and Rosario Cuahuizo. He was united in marriage to Petra Gutierrez who survives.

In addition, his children, Margarita, Gabino, Guadalupe, Alejandra, Carlos and Jose Luis Cuahuizo survive.

Calling hours are scheduled from 2-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at noon, Thursday, April 19, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Warsaw. Gloria Sandoval, 67, Warsaw, and of Guanajuato, Mexico passed away at 12:48 a.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

She was born on May 25, 1950, in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico to Gregorio Sandoval Solórzano and Maria Soledad Sanchez Leon.

Gloria Sandoval had been a resident of Kosciusko County for the past ten years where she was a homemaker and of Catholic faith. She will be dearly missed by her family.

She leaves behind four sons: Roberto (Isabel) Murillo, Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico; Jose Murillo, Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico; Carlos (Juana) Murillo, Warsaw; Gabriel (Christina) Murillo, Warsaw; and her daughter: Adriana (Cesar) Murillo Soto, Warsaw. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two brothers: Francisco Sandoval, Mexico; Javier Sandoval, California; and eight sisters:  Rosario and Amparo, both of California; Beatriz, Caramela, Estela, Martha, Gabriela, Rosalba, all of Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Alejandro Murillo.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Constantino Rocha at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 225 Gilliam Drive, Warsaw.

After the funeral mass there will be visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, at. Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.

Memorial donations may be made to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, IN 46580 to go towards funeral expenses.

David Lee “Buck” Burns, 79, Leesburg, passed away at 9:12 a.m., April 15, 2018, at Goshen Hospital in Goshen. He was born on Dec. 15, 1938, in Warsaw to George David and Florence Ellen (Strieby) Burns.

He attended North Webster High School and was a lifetime area resident. He was married on June 22, 1956, in North Webster to Betty J. Keim, who survives. He retired in 2004 from Da-Lite Screen Company in Warsaw after 22 years as a tool and die maker.

He was a member of the Church of God in North Webster, Sons of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster where he served as chaplain, and life member of the North Webster Volunteer Fire. He was formerly a “Special Officer” of the North Webster Police Department.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Debra J. Anderson, Leesburg; two sons: Jerry L. (Julia) Burns, North Webster; Jeffrey D. (Darlene) Burns, Monroe, Ga.; six grandchildren: Andrea (Ed) Klinger, Heather (Derek) Cripe, Todd (Kelsey) Burns, Brooke Burns, Ashlie (Jared) Smith and Christopher Miller; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Floyd “Chuck” Burns, Elgin, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Phillip Burns; and a sister, Patricia Burns.

 

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N SR 15, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500N, North Webster. Memorial services will follow at 6p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Judy officiating. Private family burial will take place in the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery at a later date.

Charles D. “Dwayne” Jarvis, 53, Warsaw, passed away at 5:02 p.m., Monday April 16, 2018, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born on June 18, 1964 to Charles E. and Betty J. (Hughes) Jarvis in Warsaw.

He graduated from Warsaw High School and has been a lifetime resident of Warsaw.

On June 22, 2012, he married Cathrine Meade in Warsaw. He served as the President of a local Gun Club for five years. He loved racing, fishing and other sports. He worked for Zimmer Biomet. He was a Fiber Metal Machinist.

Mr. Jarvis is survived by his wife, Cathrine Jarvis, Warsaw; his mother, Betty J. (Lowel) Collins, Winona Lake; his father, Charles E. (Leslie) Jarvis, Green Valley, Ariz.; a son, Erik (Tiara) Jarvis, Pierceton; a daughter, Alisha Jarvis; a sister, Paula (Todd) Haines, Milford; step children, Shiloh, Cody and Dillon King, all of Pierceton; nephews, Ryan (Shea) Smythe, Syracuse and Eric Haines and a niece Heidi Haines.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday April 21, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Reverend Glen Hughes officiating.

Calling will also be on Saturday from noonto the time of the services in the Funeral Chapel.

Interment will be at a later date.

The family is requesting that the memorial contribution be made to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, PO Box 1906, Warsaw, IN 46581-1906.

She was born April 20, 2017, in Goshen, to Nicholas and Sherry (Williamson) Leeman.

Survivors include her parents Nicholas and Sherry; sisters: Sierra Marie (fiancé Dylan Hooper) Null, Goshen; Addison Darlene Leeman, at home; maternal grandparents: Alton (Sally) Williamson of Ona, W. Va.; paternal grandparents: Charlie (Nancy) Leeman, Noblesville; aunts: Kim Lattea, Etna Green; Danielle (fiancé Connor Robinson), Noblesville; uncle, Brandon Leeman, Noblesville; and nephews: Aden Null and Benjamin Hooper, Goshen. She was preceded by her maternal grandmother, Darlene Williamson.

Visitation is scheduled Sunday, April 22, 2018 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A service honoring her will be conducted at 1 p.m. immediately following the visitation with Michael Rayburn officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery and will be private.

Robert D. Walters

Robert “Bob” D. Walters, 84, Warsaw, passed away unexpectedly at 1:24 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1934, in Silver Lake, to Claude D. Walters and Mildred (Christner) Walters. On Dec. 31, 1955, he was married to Patricia Overmyer, she passed away on Jan. 2, 1972. He remarried on April 17, 1999, to Judith Ann (Clabaugh) Whitaker Lease Walters, who survives.

He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where he was a 1952 graduate of Warsaw High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on July 1, 1952, and was a Korean War Veteran. He proudly served until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1955.

He worked for the Warsaw Post Office for 30 years until he retired in 1989. He attended New Beginnings Church and World Outreach, Warsaw, and was a member of the American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. #1126 both of Warsaw. He will be dearly missed and forever loved by his family and friends.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 19 years, Judith “Judy” Ann Walters, Warsaw; son: Robert D. (Kim) Walters II, Chicago, Ill.; daughter: Elizabeth Blanchard, Thibodaux, La.; two step-sons: Rick (Becky) Whitaker, Warsaw; Rodney (Vickie) Whitaker, Akron; and his step-daughter: Debbie (Kenneth) Roberts, Ashtabula, Ohio. He also leaves behind three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; one great grandchild; 13 step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Patricia Overmyer Walters, and his sister Charlotte “Char” Smith.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Ronnie Patrick and Pastor Kenneth Roberts. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #49, V.F.W. #1126 both of Warsaw, and active duty representatives of the Marine Honor Guard.

Larry Dixon ‘Dick’ Conover

Larry Dixon “Dick” Conover, 81, Warsaw, passed away in his residence at 7:37 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018.

He was born Nov. 20, 1936, in Akron, Ohio to Lawrence Gilbert Conover and Daisy Thelma (Dixon) Conover. On Aug. 17, 1957, he was married to Betty Ann (Jones) Conover, who survives.

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy on Feb. 9, 1956. He proudly served as a Radioman Third Class until his honorable discharge on Jan. 20, 1959. He worked at Goodyear Aerospace in Akron, Ohio as a Programmer Analyst and retired after 38 years with them. He enjoyed volunteering his time with Kosciusko County Jail Ministry, and for Encompass World Partners for 17 years as an Archive Specialist. He was a longtime member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, Winona Lake. He was known for his sense of humor and corny jokes. He will be dearly missed and forever loved by his family and friends.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Betty Ann Conover, Warsaw; two daughters: Terry (Gary) Herbruck, Winona Lake; Tammie (Jim) Robinson, Winona Lake; and his son: Larry (Carmen) Conover, Lansing, Mich. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Tara (Clint), Phil, Kayley, Catrice and Clay; plus his grafted family members Marla, Michele, Andy, Kayden and Dani. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his granddaughter, Kandice and great grandson, Keegan, who were waiting for him when he finally came home.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake.

His funeral service will be conducted immediately following viewing at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April, 26, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake and officiated by Pastor Jay Bell.

Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with full military rites conducted by local members of the American Legion Post 49, V.F.W. #1126 both of Warsaw and active duty members of the Navy Honor Guard.  Arrangements are entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

Clarence Wayne DeTurk

Clarence Wayne DeTurk, 98, Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.

He was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Fort Wayne, to Walter DeTurk and Terzah (Alshouse) DeTurk. On Aug. 19, 1943, he was married to Joan Lucille (Couts) DeTurk, the mother of his children. She passed away March 14, 1967. Mr. DeTurk then married Bernice Spigutz in 1968, she also passed away in September 1992. On June 6, 2016, he married Dixie (Walrath) DeTurk, who survives.

Clarence DeTurk enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and served from 1941 until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant Oct. 3, 1945. He belonged to Company L 152nd Infantry Unit, and they were called to active service Jan. 17, 1941, and were sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. In 1942 they were stationed in Hawaii. Company L Local National Guard Unit was called into federal service Jan. 17, 1943 and were again sent to Camp Shelby in Mississippi. They guarded Hawaii in 1942, then continued on to Buna, New Guinea and the Philippines. On January 1943 their unit made a surprise attack on Leyte, and moved up to Bataan to mount an attack on Zigzag Pass to Manilla. DeTurk shared these memories and stated, “We had many casualties and this was later known as the Avenger of Bataan.” He was subsequently decorated with two purple hearts, and three bronze stars.

He worked as the Post Master for the Winona Lake Post Office. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw, a life member of the American Legion Post #49 of Warsaw, and a 63 year member as well as a charter member of the Lake City Lions Club. DeTurk received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Award, and the Lions Club International Award. He always kept active and received the Russ Jacobson award for Shuffleboard, member of the Texas Shuffleboard Association, Rio Grande Valley Shuffleboard Hall of Fame, and Western Rio Grande Valley Shuffleboard Hall of Fame. He traveled throughout the U.S. and internationally to play shuffleboard in Brazil, Australia, Japan and Canada. He was an excellent golfer and mentored a lot of golfers throughout his life.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dixie DeTurk, Winona Lake; three daughters: Marla (Lowell) Luce, Mission, Texas; Nelta (Jeff) Rose, Mentone; Judy (Mike) Pruski, Poth, Texas; and two sons: Jerry (Darlene) DeTurk, Warsaw; Ken (Betsy) DeTurk, Yucaipa, Calif. Also surviving are his step-son, Jim Spigutz, Warsaw; two step-daughters: Dawn (Jeff) McIlroy and Richelle (John) Szegda, both of Mesick, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and five great-great grandsons; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; and his brother, Lewis (Lily) DeTurk, Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents, first and second wives, a sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Monday, April 30, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Ernie Troxell and Pastor Russell Simpson. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 49, V.F.W. #1126, and active duty members of the Army Honor Guard.
