Virginia Elizabeth King, 94, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 in Warsaw’s Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Virginia was born Dec. 25, 1922 in Warsaw. She was the daughter of Hubert Victor and Lauretta Marie (Eiler) Short. She was a 1940 graduate of Warsaw High School.
On July 7, 1965 Virginia was married to Ralph A. King in Columbia City. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1997.
Virginia had worked as an LPN for McDonald Hospital until they closed. Before retiring, she worked for several area nursing homes.
An avid coin, tokens and medals collector, Virginia was a member of the Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio Tokens and Medals Society and a member of the American Numismatic Association. She was also a member of American Legion Auxillary, Post 98 in Columbia City. In her earlier years, she raised sheep on her Larwill farm; in her later years, she had enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ralph, before his death.
Those who survive include her son, Franklin Ray (spouse, Sharon) Jones, residing in Kerrville, Texas but originally of Warsaw; daughter, Mardelle Kay Bailey of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren: Melinda (spouse, Troy) Aranda of San Antonio, Texas; Nicole (spouse, Gabriel) Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas; Denise (spouse, Kevin) Breen of Williamsport, Penn.; Douglas Kendel of Orlando, Fla.; Robert Kendel of Orlando, Fla.; Jennifer Montes of Orlando, Fla.; Kathryn Miller of Altamonte, Fla.; and great-grandchildren: Ireland Aranda, Khloe Gonzalez, Paul (spouse, Kathryn) Breen, Benjamin Armstrong, Lita Montes, Jacob Montes, Ruby Ann Miller, Robbie Bruce Kendel III and Aspen Kendel.
Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Jones, second husband, Robert Butts, and most recently by her husband Ralph King. She was also preceded by an infant sister, Emma Catherine Short.
Private services will be held with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill, Indiana.

Jeanette Alwine, 96, Warsaw, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. She was born Feb. 1, 1921 in Patterson, N.J. to Thomas and Jessie (Dykstra) Korenstra.
She was united in marriage to Phil Alwine on Feb. 1, 1947 in Michigan City, who preceded her March 22, 2005. Raised in Goshen and a former resident of South Bend, in 1982 she moved to Irish Lake. She had 25 years of service with Sears in the Clerical and Audit Department and retired in 1982 after serving in South Bend and Anderson. She attended the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Winona Lake.
Survivors include a son, Daniel E. (spouse Carol) Alwine of Warsaw; brothers: Gary Korenstra of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and Francis Korenstra of Syracuse. In addition, one grandson, four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren survive.
In addition to her husband Phil, she was preceded by two sisters and four brothers.
Private services are scheduled. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Nappanee. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.

Hallie J. Self, 87, Warsaw, passed away at 10:03 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
He was born on March 19, 1929 to Jessie “Hall” and Viola “Odie” (Howerton) Self in Hitchita, Okla.
Hallie and his wife have lived in Warsaw since 2004. On July 10, 1952 he married Leda Murry in Okmulgee, Okla. and on July 10, 2017 they would have been married 65 years.
He honorably served with the US Army from 1951 to 1953 in the artillery. He was employed by Rockwell International as a machinist.
Hallie enjoyed NCAA Basketball, gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Leda Self of Warsaw; a son, Barry (and spouse Cynthia) Self of Warsaw; daughters: Linda (and spouse Dwayne) of Warsaw; and Shirley (and spouse John) Hepler of California; a sister, Joyce (and spouse Floyd) Baldridge of Okmulgee, Okla.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be private. Burial will be held in his hometown (Hitchita, Okla.) at a later date

Walter Mann, 56, Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Warsaw, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 at St. Thomas West Hospital.
He was a native of Florida and lived in Murfreesboro for the past ten years. Walter was employed as Vice President of Privacy for Community Health Systems.
Walter was preceded in death by his father, Billy Guy Mann. He is survived by his mother, Haughty Colean Hazelief Mann; son, Timothy (Amanda) Mann; daughter, Christi (Nicholas) Krizman; and grand-pups, Chrissy Krizman and Sadie Mann.
In honor of Walter’s wishes, no services are planned.

James S. “Jim” Shepherd, 88, Warsaw, passed away Feb. 12, 2017 at his home.
He was born May 10, 1928 in Bippus to George and Blanche (Spicer) Shepherd.
He graduated from Bippus High School and in 1952 from Indiana University in Bloomington with his B.A Degree. He was a United States Navy veteran and was married Sept. 9, 1952 to Phyllis J. Wall, who preceded him on August 6, 2001. He retired as a production manager in 1986 from R.C.A. in Marion where he had worked since 1952 and then moved to Warsaw area 29 years ago from Marion.
He was a member of the Church of God in North Webster and American Legion Post #253 in North Webster.
He is survived by his son, James “Mike” (Rhonda) Shepherd, Rives Junction, Mich.; his granddaughter, Megan Shepherd; and great grandson, Del Ray Shepherd; two brothers: John (Joan) Shepherd, Bippus; and Richard (Rosalie) Shepherd, South Whitley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons: Kip and Brad Shepherd; four sisters, Edith, Georgie, Ena, & Anita.

David D. “Dave” Clayton, 80, Warsaw, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at Mason Health & Rehab in Warsaw, IN.
He was born June 18, 1936 in Syracuse to Eldon and Louise (Watkins) Clayton.
He graduated in 1954 from Leesburg High School and was a lifetime Kosciusko & Noble County area resident. He was married on Sept. 20, 1995 in Kimmell to Judy K. (Cook) Vincent, who survives. He retired from Clausing Industrial in Warsaw and Goshen as a machinist after 55 years.
He formerly attended the Church of God in North Webster, was a former leader of Kosciusko County 4-H Horse and Pony, and was an avid fisherman & hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Clayton, Kimmell; three daughters: Deb (Don) Minear, North Webster; Raetta (Manuel) Madriz, Eden Prairie, Minn.; Mary Ann (Joel) Vorndran, Columbia City; two sons: James (Toni) Clayton; Ed (Judy) Clayton, both of North Webster; two stepsons: Brad (Carla Snyder) Smith, Kimmell; Ron (Christy) Smith, Kimmell; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three sisters: Betty Clayton and Dee Stetzel, both of Albion; and Eldonna (Randy) Warren, North Webster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rosalind Clayton and Sally Phillips.

Dave B. Fulkerson, 78, Warsaw, passed away at 9:41 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 in Warsaw.
He was born Sept. 25, 1938 in Owensboro, Ky. to Walter Douglas Fulkerson and Mary Helen Walden.
He was a Warsaw resident since 1982 and is formerly of Columbia City and Fort Wayne. He was united in marriage in Wabash on June 9, 1972 to Eugenia Nixon until 1999.
He served as Athletic Director for Warsaw Community Schools from 1982 to 2009. In his tenure, as Athletic Director the Warsaw Schools built a strong athletic program attaining numerous awards and State Championships in various sports. Furthermore, he was an active participant and supporter of all Warsaw school students taking a sincere interest in their personal and educational development.
He was a 1960 graduate of the University of Evansville with a B.S. degree in Secondary Education. Post-graduation he continued as a basketball recruiter for Evansville and was member when the school won the NCAA Division Three Championship. Also, he graduated from St. Francis College with a Master’s degree in School Administration in 1981.He was a Physical Education Teacher for the Windsor, IL schools, White’s Institute, Wabash Schools, St. Francis College, and Columbia City. During his career, he coached Basketball, Baseball, served as Pool Director and Athletic Director.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Daniel (spouse Amy) Fulkerson, MD of Zionsville; daughter, Jodi (spouse Ace) Ramirez of Zionsville; grandchildren: Emma, Daniel, Noah, Luke and Leah Fulkerson, Alex Fulkerson and David Goad; and a sister, Connie (Fulkerson) Morris of Shorewood.
He was preceded by his foster parents, John and Maxine Peebles; brothers: Ronnie Peebles and John Roach; and a sister, Shirley Roach.
Visitation hours are scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 in the Performing Arts Center of Warsaw Community High School, with calling one hour prior to the service. Sandra K. “Sandy” Groninger, 75, Warsaw, passed away at 3:12 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 in Avalon Village, Ligonier. She had been afflicted by Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease for eight years.
The daughter of Bill and Ruby (Duncan) Dorrell, Sandy was born June 29, 1941 in Muncie.
She was a 1959 graduate of Mentone High School and lived most of her life in Kosciusko County.
On March 8, 1964, Sandy and Thomas “Tom” Groninger were joined in marriage in Atwood. She was a loving and devoted wife for the nearly 53 years they were blessed to share.
Sandy and Tom were co-owners of G & G Hauling & Excavating in Warsaw where she was the secretary. As Tom would say, “She took care of everything. I just had to do the work.”
She was an active member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood. She loved to cook for the “boys” at the shop as well as for church dinners and the Atwood Lions Club. She enjoyed mushroom hunting and liked to knit. Most of all, Sandy will be remembered for her sacrificial love as she would drop whatever she was doing to help family and friends – especially for her children, grandchildren, and the G & G family.
Although Sandy is in a much better place, she will be greatly missed by friends and family. Those whose memories will be treasured most include her husband, Tom; daughter and son-in-law: Teresa and Joey Winnett of Pauls Valley, Okla.; two sons and daughters-in-law: Cary and Kathy Groninger of Mentone; and Richard “Rich” and Sheila Groninger, Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Austin (and Savannah) Stephens of Davis, Okla.; Paige Winnett and Whitney Winnett, both of Elmore City, Okla.; Leigh Groninger, Jay Groninger and Joel Groninger, all of Mentone; and Sam Groninger and Rilee Groninger, both of Warsaw; one great grandson: Tucker Stephens, at home; one sister: Beatrice Teel of Noblesville; and one brother: Fred Dorrell of Warsaw.
Sandy was preceded in passing by a sister and a brother: Mary Hawk and Robert “Bob” Klus respectively.
The family will welcome friends and family from 4-8 p.m., Saturday Feb. 18 at Titus Funeral Home. A private family service will be held. Pastor Jim Lawson of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood and Pastor Jerry Thomas, former pastor of Otterbein United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will take place in Pleasant View Cemetery, Warsaw, at a later date.

Darlene Evelyn Slusher, 89, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 in Miller’s at Oak Point in Columbia City.
She was born Jan. 3, 1928 in Claypool to John and Neva (Miller) Wehrly. Darlene was a lifetime Kosciusko County resident and a 1946 graduate of Warsaw High School.
Darlene and Paul E. Slusher would marry on March 4, 1961 in Warsaw. They would share 30 years together until his passing on October 14, 1991.
For 24 years she was an assembly operator at Dana Weatherhead. She retired in 1991. Darlene enjoyed bird watching and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two daughters: Mary Locke of Columbia City; and Betty Lou Aguilera of Statesville, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael (and Carolyn) Locke and Stacy (and Mary) Slusher, all of Warsaw; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one step grandchild; brother: Johnie Wehrly of Peru, South America; half-brother: Gary Wehrly of Burton, Mich.; sister: Frances (and husband, Robert) Lang, South Bend; step sister: Norma (and husband, Loren) July of Burton.
In addition to her husband, Paul, those preceding Darlene’s passing are: three brothers: Raymond Wehrly, Forrest “Everett” Wehrly and Herschel Wehrly; step mother: Opal E. Wehrly; and step brother: Lavern Carroll.

Paul David Dwyer, known by many simply as “P.D.,” died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 in his Chapman Lake home. He was 82 at the time of his death.
Born on Nov. 8, 1934 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of David John and Mary Elizabeth (Runkle) Dwyer. He graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School, Marion, in 1952 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington, before earning an Associate of Science in Drafting from University of Chicago.
P.D. entered active service with the United States Army on September 28, 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a Private, he was assigned to the 14th Medical Detachment where he served as a medical corpsman. SP4 Paul Dwyer was honorably discharged from active duty on September 6,1957 from Fort Sheridan, Ill. He served for four more years with the US Army Reserves before discharging in September 1961.
On July 26, 1958, P.D. was united in marriage to Sondra “Sonnie” King in St. Paul’s Parish, Marion. Together the two shared 58 years and many happy memories.
P.D. graduated from the School of Banking at University of Wisconsin. He worked in banking and finance for 16 years before purchasing Dwyer’s Mobile Home Park at Chapman Lake which he has operated with his family since October 26, 1979.
He had a good sense of humor and was always joking. He was very social and rarely knew a stranger. He enjoyed wood working, having built bird houses, planes and many other things. He loved fishing and watching Notre Dame football; he was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and IU basketball fan. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Above all, he was a family man – a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Those who experienced his everlasting love and treasure his memory include his wife, Sonnie Dwyer of Chapman Lake; four children: Jeff Dwyer of Leesburg, Greg (Becky) Dwyer of North Manchester, Lori (Ray Marple) Horney of Warsaw and Doug “David” Dwyer of San Jose, California; seven grandchildren: Tiffany (Michael) Moore of Silver Lake, Justin (Kathrine) Dwyer of Silver Lake, Amber (fiancé, AJ Hicks) Dwyer of Corpus Christi, Texas, Heather Dwyer of Gainesville, Florida, Sara Dwyer of Gainesville, Florida, Jordan (Desiree) Horney of Dutton, Alabama and Lauren (Cody Cyr) Horney of Warsaw; and six great-grandchildren: Lillian, Hunter, Taylen, Jaxson, Brody and Jase.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Dwyer; his mother and father-in-law, Gerry and Paul King, and a son-in-law, Joseph Scott Horney.
Friends may join family to share memories and for a time of visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20 in Titus Funeral Home at 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 125 North Harrison Street, Warsaw; a visitation will take place for one hour prior. Father Andrew Nazareth will officiate the local services.
Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Military honors will be conducted by active duty members of the US Army and by members of the Marion American Legion.

Francis John “Jack” Fitzwilliam, Warsaw, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw at the age of 87.
He was born June 19, 1929 in Tengyueh, China to missionary parents Francis Julius Fitzwilliam and Jennie Eliza (Kingston) Fitzwilliam. On March 24, 1951 in Wheaton, Ill. he was married to Alice Ruth Larson, who survives in Warsaw.
Jack was a 1951 graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. He also attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago for two years. In 1961 he received his Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.
He moved to Tokyo, Japan to teach in a Christian Academy for missionary children. Later he was transferred to Faith Academy in Manila, Philippines as the business manager for three years. In 1964 he returned to Wheaton, Ill. and worked as a business administrator until 1984. Jack was the C.E.O. of Business Link Executive Suites which he founded and retired from in 1999. He enjoyed gardening and most of all he dearly loved his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years: Alice Ruth Fitzwilliam, Warsaw; son: Stephen Fitzwilliam, Kunming, China; three daughters: Karen (husband Brent) Wildman, Winona Lake; Susan Alford, Omaha, Neb.; Nancy (husband Rod) Wildman, Winona Lake; sixteen grandchildren, and thirty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at College Church, 332 E. Seminary Avenue, Wheaton, IL 60187 and officiated by Pastor Dr. Wendall Hawley. Burial will be at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Ill. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

Betty J. Miller, 89, formerly of Mentone, passed at 7:08 a.m., Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at Mason Health Care of Warsaw.
She was born on March 30, 1927 in Fulton County to Max and Leoma (Heminger) Anderson.
She married on Feb. 2, 1947 in Koontz Lake to Harold L. Miller, who preceded on July 26, 1997.
She had worked for Midwest Spring in Mentone as well as being a homemaker.
She was a 1945 graduate of Leiters Ford High School. She enjoyed doing needlework. She also enjoyed collecting dolls and stuffed animals.
She is survived by her sons: Jerry Miller, Warsaw; Larry (Cherokee) Miller, Warsaw; grandsons: Ryan, Martin and Nathan Miller; sever great grandhildren; sisters: Phyllis Becraft, Rochester; Sue Grube, Rochester; Ruth Ann (Paul Reuter) Warsaw; brother: Robert Anderson, Anderson.
She was preceded by her parents, husband and a brother, Donald.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 at Richland Center Cemetery, Rochester with Pastor Dennis Rollebacher officiating.
