Malcolm B. ‘Buddy’ Shearer

Malcolm B. “Buddy” Shearer, 85, of Warsaw formerly of Bourbon, passed away at 1:15 p.m.  Friday, July 24, 2015, in Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home Warsaw, Indiana.

Buddy was born Nov. 6, 1929, at Mishawaka, to William Shearer, Sr. and Sarah (Penrod) Shearer.  He has been a resident of area all his life. Buddy was highly educated. He was a graduate of Bourbon High School in the class of 1947, Bachelor Degree from Bob Jones University and a Masters Degree from University of Tennessee. He even work at the South Bend Missile Plant manufacturing a speciality missiles for the Navy and he retired from Biomet in 1992. He was a United States Veteran serving in the Korean War with the Air Force. He was a member of The Bourbon American Legion Post 424.

He is survived by his brother: Douglas P. Shearer, Warsaw; two nieces: Vickie Shearer, Warsaw; Cheryl (Jim) Holderman, Warsaw; and a nephew: Mike (Susan) Shearer, Warsaw.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: William Shearer Jr..

There will be no visitation or services at this time. A memorial grave side service will be at a later date.


Ethel Lou Kehoe Goodrich

Ethel Lou Kehoe Goodrich, 87, passed away in her sleep early Wednesday, July 15, 2015, while visiting her family in California.

Ethel was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Warsaw. Growing up, she spent much of free summer time swimming at Center Lake. She moved to Sidney, in 1944 and graduated from Sidney High School the following year as a junior. Ethel and Clyde D. Goodrich were happily married on Feb. 4, 1949. They had three children: John Clyde; Jo Ellen “Jody”; and James Leroy. Ethel was an accomplished seamstress, sewing thousands of sequins on costumes she made for Jody’s baton twirling endeavors. James Leroy predeceased his mother and father.

South Bend became home since 1960. Ethel was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. Occasionally she sang special music with her husband or her daughter and good friend, Jim Heiner. Together, Ethel and Clyde enjoyed square dancing, camping, attending church, playing bridge, scrabble and other games, traveling, and most importantly, socializing with family and friends. Though only attending one game ever late in life, she never missed a Notre Dame football game on television.

In Feb. 1991, Ethel retired as office manager for Darr and Associates of South Bend. She and Clyde had planned to leave for Frostproof, Florida, the next day but were delayed by an 18 1/2″ snowfall that morning. They continued their snowbird tradition at Camp Inn until Clyde passed away in 2006. Ethel continued snow birding until recently, spending most of her time in Indiana and Florida.

Ethel passed away in her sleep early July 15, 2015, while visiting family in California. Three of her siblings: Margaret; Lyle; and Betty Jean Kehoe; did not survive childhood. Her other siblings: John; Richard; and Edward Kehoe; and Lillian Sparks; predeceased her.

Ethel is survived and missed by her son: John C. (Deborah J.) Goodrich; and daughter: Jo Ellen “Jody” Praklet; her six grandchildren: John C. (Rhonda M.) Goodrich Jr.; Robert W. (Nicole) Goodrich; Trisha L. (Daniel) Christinson; Marci M. (Tommy) Nedialkov; David A. (Jamie L.) Praklet II; and Tracy L. Collmer Praklet; and 13 great-grandchildren whom she loved: Jessica; Allyson; and Cole Goodrich; Madison and Delaney James Goodrich; Taylor and Dustin Lamar; Emma and Reade Christison; Zachary and Owen Nedialkov; and Seth and Riley Collmer.

She was a great mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by her nieces and nephews. All will remember her wonderful smile, witty personality and goodness. She was a joy to be around.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 1, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, South Bend, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday Aug. 1, at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, South Bend.

Dorothy ‘Dot’ Evelyn Meck

Dorothy MeckDorothy “Dot” Evelyn Meck, 97, of Warsaw passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at her home.

She was born to Lucy Culp on Oct. 29, 1917, in Petoskey, Mich. Dorothy was raised in and around Flint, Mich. and attended high school there. In 1938, she moved to Indiana and raised her five children. Dorothy was very involved in the American Legion in Warsaw and served as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary President. She enjoyed taking pontoon rides on the Chain-of-Lakes and dancing with love of her life, Joe Powers. Dorothy will be remembered as a great mother and a phenomenal cook.

Dorothy is survived by four children: Patrick (Peggy) Meck, Pierceton; Alan (Chris) Meck, Pierceton; Cheryl (James) Moneyheffer, Leesburg; Darrell Meck, Leesburg; 12 grandchildren: Kurtis (Karen) Meck; Brian (Kris) Meck; Angel (Alan) Blakely; Jason Meck; Justin Moneyheffer; Jamie Moneyheffer; Cory Moneyheffer; Caleb Moneyheffer; Joshua Goble; Zach Meck; Cassie Meck; Matthew Meck; five great-grandchildren: Andrew Meck; Colin Meck; Jaden Moneyheffer; Miranda Moneyheffer; Hali Moneyheffer-Wilson; one great-great-grandchild: Jackson Meck; and one sister: Patty Buzzitta, Grand Rapids, Mich.

She was preceded in death by a son: Tim Meck, and five brothers and one sister.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at Mishler Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Milford.

A viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, will be held at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Kosciusko County Animal Welfare League.

Evelyn Louise WagnerEvelyn Louise Wagner of Warsaw, passed away at 5 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw at the age of 92.

She was a seamstress for many years at Danek in Warsaw and had attended Pierceton High School in Pierceton. Evelyn had worked many jobs throughout her life in retail stores and in factories. She was a cashier at Woodies Grocery Store, Thomas Discount Store, Danner’s Discount Store, and even worked as a Florist at Ace Hardware’s floral department…..she was a hard worker. Evelyn enjoyed bingo, reading and was a great supporter of Our Father’s House in Warsaw.

She was born on July 20, 1923, in Wabash County, to William Ward Sittler and Ruth Marie (Nute) Sittler. Evelyn was once married to Bob Stump and Gene Kain, and was re-married on March 13, 1964, to Mervin “Red” Elwood Wagner, who passed away on June 6, 1990.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Sandy (Robert) Denton, Warsaw; Roz (David) Morgan, Claypool; four sons: Willard (Susie) Wagner, Warsaw; Bob Stump Jr.; Amos Stump; and John Stump, all of Warsaw. Evelyn also leaves behind numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; one sister; a granddaughter; and two sons: Mervin Michael Wagner; and William “Bill” Kain; and son-in-law: Frank Banghart Sr.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw. Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home, officiated by Ken Locke. A graveside service will follow at Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.

Memorial donations may be directed to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, to go towards funeral expenses and would be appreciated by the family.

Ray Fenix

Fenix, RayRay Fenix, 84, Warsaw, died at 5:28 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2015, in Mason Health and Rehabilitation, Warsaw.

He was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Floyd County, KY. He was raised by his grandparents: Walker and Martha Horn. He was an Air Force Veteran. Ray retired from Creighton Brothers, Warsaw.  He enjoyed working number circle finds and was a great cook and enjoyed dogs and loved children.  He also enjoyed camping and was a great storyteller.

His companion of 33 years, Nancy Konkle, died October 12, 2008.

He is survived by two nieces: Tina Fenix, Warsaw; and Barbara Brown, Macy; three nephews: Charles “Ray” Fenix, Warsaw; Gene Fenix, Atwood; and Danny Fenix, Mich.; and his special friend: Kenton Slone, Warsaw. Two brothers and five sisters are deceased.

There will be no calling or services. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Steven ‘Steve’ Edward Watson

Steven WatsonSteven “Steve” Edward Watson of Warsaw, passed away at 6:38 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis at the age of 65.  He will be missed terribly but his family finds peace knowing that he is in Heaven with his Lord and Savior.

He was a corporate pilot for Zimmer Inc. of Warsaw,  for 27 years.  Steve was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 37 years.  He was born in Bartholomew County, and grew up in North Manchester where he was a 1968 graduate of North Manchester High School.  He then attended Purdue University and received his Bachelor’s degree in aviation in 1972.  For 10 years Steve and his wife Becky owned Speed Rocket Fireworks in Warsaw which he thoroughly enjoyed running.

Always wanting to help and give back, he was passionate about finding a cure for Multiple Myeloma and was actively involved in the organization Miles For Myeloma for over ten years.  He was the first one there to help someone who had been diagnosed with myeloma and gave his heartfelt support.

Steve was actively involved in his church, First United Methodist Church of Warsaw and possessed a strong faith in God.  He loved motorsports, especially the Indianapolis 500….which he enjoyed having attended over 50 times.  He was liked by anyone who ever met him, he was a positive person and was enthusiastic about life, his friends and family.   Steve had so many friends he enjoyed catching up with that he would spends hours on the phone talking to them.  He loved telling stories and jokes, enjoyed nature, the outdoors, but more than anything he LOVED his family.  Making sure to always make them his number one priority.  Steve will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful grandfather, or as his grandkids would refer to him as simply “Pops”.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1949, in Columbus, to World War II veteran Norman Edward Watson and Norma Jean (Huston) Watson.  On June 10, 1978, he married the love of his life Rebecca “Becky” Ann (Grim) Watson, who survives in Warsaw.  They happily shared their lives in 37 years of marriage.

Also surviving is his son: Curtis (fiancée Christie Starace) Watson, Long Island, N.Y.; daughter: Nicole (Andrew) Arrendale, Westfield; two grandchildren: Graham; and Kellen; brother: Bruce (Paula) Watson, Columbus; three nephews: Brian; Mark; and Gabe; and his niece: Josie. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, and one hour prior to the service, 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 31. His funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 31, at the church, officiated by Pastors Scott Carmer and Toni Carmer. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

On July 1, 1950, she was born in Warsaw to William and Peggy (Huggins) Baumgardner. She was a lifetime resident of Warsaw and was formerly employed by Ponderosa and Dollar General Store.

She is survived by her daughter: Amber (Kevin) Haines, Winona Lake; her son: Ryan Bussard, Warsaw; her father: William Baumgardner, Lake Placid, Fla.; her brother: Brad (Cindy) Baumgardner, Tampa, Fla.; her sister: Nancy Guyse, Warsaw; four grandchildren: Nolan Haines; Hannah Haines; Karter Bussard; and Peyton Bussard; and her brother-in-law: Brian Schooley, Sacramento, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her mother; sister: Judy Schooley; and her brother-in-law: James Guyse.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with Chaplain John Schrock officiating.

Visitation hours will be from 10 a.m. and noon before the service, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

She was born Tuesday, July 14, in Warsaw, to Timothy Hyde and Ginni Gibbs.

Alex-Marie is survived by her mother: Ginni Gibbs, Warsaw; father: Timothy Hyde, Warsaw; brother: Mikael Gibbs, Warsaw; and sister: Navarrah Gibbs, Warsaw. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents: Darrin and Nadine Gibbs, Warsaw; and her paternal grandparents: Dean and Cindy Crawford, Pierceton. She was preceded in death by her brother.

Lester ShandLester L. Shand, 89 of Warsaw, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, in Parkview Regional medical Center, Fort Wayne.

On Jan. 3, 1926, he was born in Warsaw, to William and Linney (Sell) Shand. Lester was one of seven children. He was united in marriage to Beulah Marie Stanley on Dec. 20, 1944. She preceded him in death on Jul 22, 1997.

Lester worked in maintenance for Endicott Church Furniture and then worked as a foreman for Laminated Rafters. He then worked as a machinist for DePuy, retiring in 1991.

He was the loving father of daughters: Judy K. Gallaher, Burnettsville; Joyce (Randy) Hardesty, Rochester; and sons: Stanley (Celia) Shand, Lafayette; and Steven (Wanda) Shand, Fort Wayne. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: Shannon M. Smith; Shane L. (Summer) Smith; Blake E. (Molly) Hardesty; Shelby L. Livengood; Tiffanie D. (Jason) Bolen; Kimberly K. (Travis) Coffey; Skipper S. (Amy) Shand; Shelley A. (Todd) Swymeler; 17 great-grandchidlren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two grandsons: Matthew S. Hardesty; and Seth A. Shand.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Chaplain Bob Jarboe officiating of Kosciusko Homecare and Hospice officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Visitation hours will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, in the funeral chapel.

Brad JohnsonBrad K Johnson, 60, of Warsaw, passed away at 7:44 a.m. Tuesday July 28, 2015, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1954, to Jack and Sharon (Coons) Johnson in Hartford City. He was married to Sherri Maggard on Aug. 22, 1988 who survives in Warsaw.

In addition to Sherri he is also survived by his brother: Rod (Dorothy) Johnson, Hartford City; his sisters: Tami Johnson, Muncie; and Vanna Devoe, Muncie; his sons: Brady (Melissa) Johnson, Bluffton; Brandon (Jennifer) Johnson, Greenfield; and Chris (Heather) Johnson, Warsaw; his daughters: Sara Phegley, Decatur; and Stephanie (Reggie) Ellison, Hartford City; 11 grandchildren; and his best friend: Sammy the dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Jack (Patricia) Johnson; and Sharon (Bob) Patterson.

There will be a visitation with family and friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Christ’s Covenant Church, Winona Lake. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted to his arrangements.

Beulah M. Wentz

Beulah M. WentzBeulah M. Wentz passed away at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw, on her 94th birthday.

She was born July 28, 1921, in Livingston, Ky. to Harrison B. and Lula (Perciful) Cope. On June 2, 1950, in New Paris, Ohio, Beulah became the bride of Harold H. Wentz. They moved to Warsaw in 1961. Harold would precede her in death April 9, 1997.
Beulah was a material handler for R.R. Donnelley and Sons for 22 years retiring in 1986. She was the first female hired at Donnelley’s.

A member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 49, she loved playing Euchre and never passed a garage sale. Beulah was a very giving person who dearly loved her grandchildren.

Those who survive are her daughter: Julie Wentz-Frazier, Grove City, Ohio; three sons: Roy (Sandra) Wentz, Warsaw; Larry (Judie) Wentz, Warsaw; and Doug (Cindy) Wentz, Seymore; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. In addition to her husband: Harold, those preceding Beulah’s death is a son: Jerry Cope, on June 25, 2002; three brothers: John Cope; George Cope; and James Cope; five sisters: Alene Potts; Ethel Samdel; Hazel Ponder; Pearl King; and Myrtle Cope.

Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. until noon Monday, Aug. 3, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, for a time to share memories. Then beginning at noon, a service celebrating Beulah’s life will begin with Pastor EJ Underwood of Warsaw Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in Leesburg Cemetery, Leesburg.

The family has asked that gifts in Beulah’s memory be given to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, Warsaw.

The staff of Titus Funeral Home considers it a privilege to care for the family and friends of Beulah M. Wentz.

Ernest KolesiakErnest Theodore Kolesiak of Warsaw, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at his residence at the age of 75 surrounded by family.

He was a resident of Kosciusko County, for the past 39 years where he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Warsaw. He had a deep faith in God and the Catholic Church.

Ernest served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 until 1965 when he was honorably discharged. He retired as the Director of International Services for Zimmer, Inc. of Warsaw

He was born on Oct. 12, 1939 in South Bend, to Theodore A. Kolesiak and Casmira (Jeziorski) Kolesiak. On Feb. 23, 1963, he was married to Shirley Ann (Leda) Kolesiak, who passed away on March 1, 2013.

Ernest will be lovingly remembered by his two Daughters: Cynthia Romine, Warsaw; Karen (Kurt) Kratzch, Warsaw; son: Michael (Shannon) Kolesiak, Akron; eight grandchildren: Zach; Megan; Jacob; Derek; Sarah; Baylee; Ashlynn; and Jadyn; and one great-grandchildren: Tory. He also leaves behind his sister: Tina Springer, Tuscon, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister: Harriet Chlebek.

His visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, with a Rosary Service at 8 p.m.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Warsaw and celebrated by Father Phil DeVolder. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #49, V.F.W. #1126 and active members of the military. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Memorial donations may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, or to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, Warsaw, and would be appreciated by his family.

Sharon L. Masterson, 71, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

She was born Jan. 3, 1944, in Lakeville, to Clarence and Shebea King. She was married to Donald Masterson on Nov. 7, 1967, in LaPaz, and lived in Warsaw. She was a homemaker who loved caring for her children and granddchildren.

She is survived by her husband: Donald Masterson, Warsaw; three sons: Donald Masterson Jr., Warsaw; Jeffrey Masteron, Warsaw; and Leonard Chambers, Argos; three daughters: Lela Francis, Warsaw; Debbie Lynn Wirsing, Warsaw; and Penny Masterson, Warsaw; brother: Russell King, Lakeville; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-granchildren. She was preceded in death by her twin sister: Karen White; and brother: Doug King.

There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
