Ethel Lou Kehoe Goodrich, 87, passed away in her sleep early Wednesday, July 15, 2015, while visiting her family in California.
Ethel was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Warsaw. Growing up, she spent much of free summer time swimming at Center Lake. She moved to Sidney, in 1944 and graduated from Sidney High School the following year as a junior. Ethel and Clyde D. Goodrich were happily married on Feb. 4, 1949. They had three children: John Clyde; Jo Ellen “Jody”; and James Leroy. Ethel was an accomplished seamstress, sewing thousands of sequins on costumes she made for Jody’s baton twirling endeavors. James Leroy predeceased his mother and father.
South Bend became home since 1960. Ethel was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. Occasionally she sang special music with her husband or her daughter and good friend, Jim Heiner. Together, Ethel and Clyde enjoyed square dancing, camping, attending church, playing bridge, scrabble and other games, traveling, and most importantly, socializing with family and friends. Though only attending one game ever late in life, she never missed a Notre Dame football game on television.
In Feb. 1991, Ethel retired as office manager for Darr and Associates of South Bend. She and Clyde had planned to leave for Frostproof, Florida, the next day but were delayed by an 18 1/2″ snowfall that morning. They continued their snowbird tradition at Camp Inn until Clyde passed away in 2006. Ethel continued snow birding until recently, spending most of her time in Indiana and Florida.
Ethel passed away in her sleep early July 15, 2015, while visiting family in California. Three of her siblings: Margaret; Lyle; and Betty Jean Kehoe; did not survive childhood. Her other siblings: John; Richard; and Edward Kehoe; and Lillian Sparks; predeceased her.
Ethel is survived and missed by her son: John C. (Deborah J.) Goodrich; and daughter: Jo Ellen “Jody” Praklet; her six grandchildren: John C. (Rhonda M.) Goodrich Jr.; Robert W. (Nicole) Goodrich; Trisha L. (Daniel) Christinson; Marci M. (Tommy) Nedialkov; David A. (Jamie L.) Praklet II; and Tracy L. Collmer Praklet; and 13 great-grandchildren whom she loved: Jessica; Allyson; and Cole Goodrich; Madison and Delaney James Goodrich; Taylor and Dustin Lamar; Emma and Reade Christison; Zachary and Owen Nedialkov; and Seth and Riley Collmer.
