Merrilee R. Wagner

Wagner, MerrileeMerrilee R. Wagner, 76, passed away at 2:12 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw.

Merrilee was born Jan. 25, 1939 in Huntington, to Raymond and Arlena (McDaniel) Sands.

She first was married Harold Campbell on May 10, 1958. He survives as the father of her children. On June 11, 1983, she and William H. Beahan were married in Winona Lake. He died Sept. 18, 1990. Then Merrilee and Larry Wagner were married Dec. 14, 1996, in Warsaw and would share 16 years together until his death June 7, 2013.

Merrilee lived most of her life in Warsaw where she was worked for Cardinal Center for 20 years. She would retire in 2001 as a Director Support Professional in a group home.

She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and crocheting. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling. But most of all Merrilee enjoyed her family and her pets.

She is survived by her daughter: Laura (Carl) Sowers; and son: Scott (Laura) Campbell, all of Warsaw; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Jean Arsenault, Melborne, Fla.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Gard; and Patricia Barker; father: Raymond Sands; mother: Arlena Winkler; and her stepfather: Clarence Winkler.

Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of one another from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A service celebrating Merrilee’s life will take place 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

The family has asked that gifts in Merrilee’s memory be given to a charity of choice or simple acts of kindness may be done
for others in Merrilee’s memory.

Kathryn A. Christian, 73, Warsaw passed away at 10:31 a.m. Friday July 31, 2015, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. She was born on Feb. 13, 1942, to Henry and Mabel (Kegley) Willey in Elkhart.

She has been a Warsaw resident since 2003. She was united in marriage on July 23, 1960, to Nicholas Christian. She was a Special Education Teacher for Concord Oxbow (Elkhart), Concord Eastside (Elkhart), Concord Westside (Elkhart), Concord High School (Elkhart) and Goshen High School. She retired after 23 1/2 years in 2002.

She was a member of Creekside Brethren Church while living in Elkhart and Warsaw Wesleyan Church after moving to Warsaw.

Kathryn enjoyed sewing, quilting, photography, painting and doing arts and crafts with her grand and great grandchildren. She loved to watch and listen to thunderstorms and the waves of Lake Michigan. Kathryn was a nature lover and one of her favorite places to go and take in the beauty God created was Fernwood Botanical Gardens.

Kathryn had a deep faith, love and commitment to Jesus Christ and proclaimed him as her Savior and Lord until her last breath.

Kathryn is survived by two daughters: Lori (Will) Beltran; and Carol (Scott) Bianchini; son: Scott (Kim) Christian; two sisters: Pat Collins; Frances Huff; brother: Henry Willey Jr.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is precede in death by her sister: Debbie; and her beloved dog: Scooter.

Our Mother

Our Mother is a woman like no other. She gave us life, nurtured us, taught us, dressed us, fought for us, held us, shouted at us, kissed us, but most of all she loved us unconditionally.

She was and will continue to be a powerful influence on all of us.

A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 16, at Warsaw Wesleyan Church with Reverend Andy Weaver Officiating. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, or Warsaw Wesleyan Church, Missions Fund, Warsaw.

Jeffery Michael Lawton

Jeffery LawtonJeffery Michael Lawton, 32, formerly of Mishawaka and currently residing in Warsaw, passed away suddenly at home Monday, August 3, 2014. He was born March 7, 1983 in South Bend.

Jeff graduated from Penn High School in 2001. He was always full of life and loved snowboarding, skateboarding, and any extreme sport. There wasn’t a place he could go without knowing at least one person who loved and cared for him. He was currently employed by R and B Automotive in Warsaw in sales.

Jeff is survied by his mother: Deborah Lawton, Phoenix, Ariz.; his father: Gerry Lawton, South Bend; and brother: Chad (Molly) Lawton, Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as maternal grandparents: Bob and Bonnie McPike, Phoenix, Ariz.; and paternal grandparents: Doris Lawton, South Bend; and Carol (John) McClure, Goshen. Our beloved son and brother accepted Christ in his life last year, and shared that passion with us all. His jubilant and live for the moment attitude will leave a permanent and loving impression on all who knew him.

Funeral services for Jeff will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the Palmer Funeral Home, Hickey Chapel, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, as well as one hour prior to services Friday, Aug. 7, in the funeral home.

Christopher PraterChristopher David Prater, 17, Syracuse, passed away at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, in Syracuse.

On Sept. 18 1997, Christopher was born to Howard and Jenny (Builta) Prater at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. Christopher was a resident of Syracuse since 2006.

Christopher was a senior at Wawasee High School, worked at McDonald’s in Syracuse and attended both Vineyard Church of Syracuse and the Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw. Christopher enjoyed spending time with family, had a love for fishing, enjoyed traveling, cars (especially his truck) and liked to cook. Christopher had a love and respect for the military service and was committed to join the U.S. Army following graduation from high school.

Christopher is survived by his mother and stepfather: Jenny and Jim Layne, Syracuse; his father: Howard Prater, Scott Air Force Base, O’Fallon, Ill.; sister: Amy Prater, North Webster; stepsister: Emilia and stepbrother: Jason at the Layne home in Syracuse; paternal grandparents: Don and Lynda Prater, Warsaw; maternal grandparents” Janet and James Merchant, Valparaiso. Christopher was also survived by his aunts: Amanda Prater, Warsaw; Melissa Drongowski, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; Alexis Builta, Florida; his uncles: Daniel Builta, DeMotte; Robert Builta, Valparaiso; and Darrel Drongowski, Mount Juliet, Tenn.

Christopher was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Alan Builta.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

Funeral services for Christopher will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the funeral chapel. Pastor Dave Winters and Pastor Dave Hummel will be officiating the service. Burial will be at the Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse.

Doris J RamseyDoris J. Ramsey, 83 of Warsaw, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, in her residence.

She was born on June 30, 1932, in East Chicago, to Earl and Vera (Langel) Gray Sr.

Doris was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene” Ramsey on April 22, 1950, in Gary. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2006.

She worked for Harvey’s Dime Store, Warsaw and then Tractor Supply, Warsaw. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing.

Doris is survived by her daughter: Diane Ramsey, Warsaw; her son: Howard Ramsey, Warsaw; her grandson: Adam (and spouse Lindy) Ramsey, Warsaw; her granddaughter: Amanda (and spouse Billy) Fairchild, Warsaw; six great grandchildren: Devin, Zacary, Emily, Kyan, Cameron and Kaitlyn. She is also survived by two sisters: Alberta (and spouse Tom) Schroeder, Bourbon; Gloria (and spouse Edward) Picotte, Crown Point; her brother: Donald (and spouse Carol) Gray, Highland; two sister-in-laws: Jana Gray, North Judson; and Carol Gray, Highland; brother-in-law:, Ronald J. (and spouse Carol) Ramsey, Florida.

Doris is also preceded in death by her son: Steve E. Ramsey; two grandsons: Andrew S. Ramsey and Aric J. Ramsey; three sisters: Francis Bennet, Julia Bartolac and Dorothy O’Pachan; two brothers: Kenneth Gray and Earl Gray Jr.; and her sister-in-law, Loretta (Ramsey) Warner Blanton.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Chase “Jake” Warrix officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Visitation hours will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, in the funeral chapel.

William T. ‘Terry’ Engeman

William T. 'Terry' EngemanWilliam T. “Terry” Engeman, 77, residing in South Bend, returned to the loving arms of God at 4:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2015. He was born Oct. 7, 1937 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Urban “Whitey” and Edista (Barker) Engeman.

On Nov. 23, 1961, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw, Terry married Susan Jane Van Osdol, who survives.

In addition to his loving wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughter: Teresa (Kevin) Lennon, Indianapolis; sons: Andrew Engeman, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Jim (Laura) Engeman, Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren: Luke; Cal; Colleen; Madelyn; Piercen; and Katherine.

Terry earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the Jordan College of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis. He then attended Indiana University South Bend and Ball State University in Muncie, from which he earned his Master’s Degree. He was a long-time educator and band director for South Bend Community Schools for 35 years before retiring. Prior to coming to South Bend, Terry taught ten years in the Catholic schools in Fort Wayne.

Music was Terry’s passion. He was a well respected percussionist, performing for the South Bend Symphony, the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic and the South Bend Pops. Terry served as president of the South Bend Musicians Union. He also enjoyed playing at the South Bend Civic Theatre, as well as the Round Barn Theater at Amish Acres. Terry also taught music privately to many grade school, high school and college students. He was a long time member of St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, in St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church, South Bend. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Palmer Funeral Home, Hickey Chapel, South Bend, where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friends may also visit one hour prior to mass on Friday in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church or the Food Pantry at the church. Online condolences may be left for the Engeman family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.

Jack William KlinefelterJack William Klinefelter, 84, passed away unexpectedly at 8:26 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Jack was born in Arcola, to Jacob M. and Gladys Marie (Hill) Klinefelter on Feb. 19, 1930. He and Marilyn R. Kitchen were married Jan. 14, 1956, in Columbia City. She survives.

A Warsaw, resident, Jack was employed for eight years as a general manager for American Home Center. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and attended Dutchtown Brethren Church. Jack was past president of Warsaw Little League and a member of the NRA. He was also a member of the North South Skirmish Association and participated in their competitions. He enjoyed fishing, camping, wood working and was an avid outdoorsman. Jack was politically minded and known for his letters to the editor on such matters.

In addition to his wife of 59 years: Marilyn; he leaves behind two sons: Jack W. (Tammy) Klinefelter Jr., Nashville, Tenn.; and John J. (Trinia) Klinefelter, Warsaw; his daughter: Valerie (Kevelin) Grimes, Nashville, Tenn; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by two half-brothers: Lowell Klinefelter; and Robert Jean Heminger; and a half-sister: Alice Wallace.

Family and friends will gather from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, for a time of sharing memories in support of one another. A service celebrating Jack’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, in the funeral home. Marilyn’s brother, Michael Kitchen, will conduct the service and Pastor Jack Worth, Dutchtown Brethren Church, will assist.

Burial will follow in Etna Green Cemetery, Etna Green, Indiana.

Dorothy Elizabeth Hoffer

Hoffer, DorothyDorothy Elizabeth Hoffer, 85, Warsaw, passed away at 4:06 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, in Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

She was born Feb. 17, 1930, to John E. and Virginia J. (Sensibaugh) Hershberger, and was a 1948 graduate of Mentone High School. On Aug. 13, 1949, she married Frank Devon Hoffer, in Atwood, and was a lifetime Kosciusko County resident. She worked for Cargill, Inc., for 15 years, and was an assistant bank manaer for Etna Bank for 13 years, retiring in 1994.

Dorothy was the hey holder and date planner for the Atwood Community Center for many years and was involved in the Atwood firehouse functions, class reunions and other community events. She chronicled historical information for Kosciusko County since the 1940’s. She enjoyed reading on her porch swing and looking out over the lake.

She is survived by her daughter: Ruth Hoffer, Warsaw; son: Chad Hoffer, Warsaw; two granddaughters: Kerri Hoffer, Dallas, Texas; and Jan Hoffer, Dallas, Texas; and one great-granddaughter: Kamaria Maloney.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank Hoffer, on May 26, 2015, and a son.

There will be no visitation and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Gerald 'J.D.' Lee DavisGerald  “J.D.” Lee Davis, 70, of Lakeville, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at his home. He was born on Dec. 16, 1944, in South Bend, to the late Vaughn E. and Della K. (Smith) Davis. He was united in marriage on May 1, 1961, in South Bend, to Sally Ilene Mikel who preceded him in death on March 7, 2001.

Jerry is survived by his daughter: Julianna Beth (Brad) Whiteman, Lakeville; four sons: Douglas Lee Davis, Warsaw; William Glenn (Tina) Davis, Lakeville; Steven Bret Davis, Plymouth; and John Brendan Davis, South Bend; seven grandsons and seven granddaughters; six great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; two sisters: Nancy A. (Gifford) Torbenson, South Bend; and Patricia J. (Race) Hickman, Lakeville; one brother: William (Deborah) Davis, Plymouth; and special niece: Priscilla Jane Price, South Bend. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Ally Marie Davis, on Nov. 22, 1994, and an infant brother: William G. Davis.

Jerry was a lifelong area resident. He was the co-founder of Lake City Heat Treating Corporation in Warsaw.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend. His son, John B. Davis, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the funeral home.

slaymakerDoris Ann Slaymaker, 78, of Warsaw, passed away at her home at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015.

She was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Kosciusko County to Eugene and Anna Mae (Evans) Beigh, who precede her in death. She was a graduate of Warsaw High School in 1955. She attended Manchester College where she earned her Associates Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a Preschool teacher at Little People School for many years. She also worked as a Creative Galleries consultant. She was a proud member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was the Kosciusko County Home Extension President from 1987-1988 and 1981-1982.

Doris was involved in Kiwanis International where she served as president and secretary. She was a Girl Scout Day Camp Director, served as vice president for the Indiana Lakeland Girl Scout Council, and was a canoeing instructor. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, Heart Association, and was a 4-H leader in Kosciusko County. She was the county’s first director of Volunteer Community Services. In 1990 she was nominated Times Union-WRSW “Woman of the Year”, with Greater Area Warsaw Chamber of Commerce. She lived in Sun City, Calif. for 14 years. While there, she served as the United Methodist Women District secretary. She also took part in the Grandparent Fostering Tutoring Program.

Surviving are two sons: Roy Slaymaker, Columbus, Ohio; and Samuel (Carol) Slaymaker, Warsaw; four grandchildren: Andrew (Kimberly) Slaymaker, Claypool; Brittney (Craig) Brosman, Winona Lake; Nicole Slaymaker; Jennifer Slaymaker, both of Warsaw; two great-grandchildren: Payton Slaymaker; and Avery Slaymaker. Also surviving are two brothers: Robert (Mary Lou) Beigh, Findlay, Ohio; Benny (Amy) Beigh, Orlando, Fla.; and a sister: Rosalie (Jim) Bonine, Culver. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Roberta Slaymaker; and a brother: Bill Beigh.

A celebration of life will be held in honor of Doris Ann Slaymaker at noon, Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw. This will be a potluck celebration. The family requests that you bring a dish and your favorite memories to share. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.

She was born June 23, 1939, in Terre Haute, to Richard L. and Gladys (Whitaker) Leeth. She was married to Jim Essman who preceded her in death Nov. 19, 2004. She was employed by American Airlines, retiring on Oct. 31, 2001. She attended Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw.

Survivors include sister: Patricia (John) Bretza, Orange County, Calif.; Phyllis Wilkey, Warsaw; brother: Rochard M. (Suzette) Leeth, Philippines; nieces and nephews: John (Michelle) Bretza, Orange County, Calif.; Cindy (Tony) Elliott, Warsaw; Kristy (Diego) Escutia, Orange Co., Calif.; great-nieces: Brook; Chase Escutia; Zander; and Zach Bretza, Orange Co., Calif.; and Ryan and Jack Lowe, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Shultz; and a niece: Kim Cretcher.

Visitation hours are scheduled from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, with a Memorial Service to follow at 6 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Pastor Steve Ailes will officiate. Interment will be made at sea.

Albertis “Albert” L. Sherow, 76, Warsaw, died Tuesday evening Aug. 18, 2015, at IU Health Goshen Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1937, in Plymouth, to Aldora Albertis Sherow and Anna (Fetters) Sherow. Albert had lived in Warsaw, for the last 11 years, having lived in Richland Center before that.

On Sept. 12, 1958, he married June Wilson. June preceded him on Feb. 9, 2004. He then married Shirley Hibshman on Dec. 17, 2004, and together they shared the last 10 years with each other.

Albert had worked from 1996 for Kabelin Ace Hardware Plymouth and Walkerton, and had just recently retired on Aug. 2, 2015. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from Feb. 16, 1957, to Aug. 15, 1957, and was transferred to the United States Army Reserve Indiana Military District and served till Nov. 25, 1964.

Albert is survived by his wife: Shirley Sherow, Warsaw; daughter: Judith L. (Donald) Wallace, Rochester; sons: Roger L. (Edwina) Sherow, Waterloo, Ala.; Albert L. (Camille) Sherow, Warsaw; Rick L. (Stacy) Sherow, Etna Green; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; stepchildren: Brenda (Dave) Snyder, Goshen; John Whitmyer, Elkhart; Tim (Sandy) Whitmyer, Jimtown; and Andy Whitmyer, Edwardsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife: June Sherow; sisters: Lucille Stump; Rose Elsworth; brothers: Danny Sherow; and Roscoe Sherow.

Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Earl Grossman Funeral Home, Argos. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home, with Rev. Steve Patrick of the House of the Lord Church, Plymouth. Burial will follow at the Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.

Linda YeiterLinda Lou Yeiter, 75, Warsaw, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

She was born Nov. 13, 1939, in Warsaw, to Dwayne and Maxine (Wideman) Horn. She married Larry Yeiter in Atwood July 21, 1956. She was a farmer’s wife and homemaker.

Linda was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church; former member Lamda Chi Omega; loved to travel; enjoyed gardening and tending her flower beds; and enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a member of a bowling league.

She is survived by her husband; Larry Yeiter, Warsaw; son: Jerry (Diane) Yeiter, Warsaw; daughter: Carmen Yeiter, Warsaw; daughter: Cindy (Dan) Koldyke, Silver Lake; five grandchildren: Jenna (Scott) Burton, Claypool; Chris Koldyke, Warsaw; Ashley (Shade) Keeney, Claypool; Matt Koldyke, Burket; and Russ Yeiter, Warsaw; 4.7 great grandchildren; sister: Sharon Miller, Warsaw; sister: Judy Robinson, Warsaw; sister: Luann Horn, Warsaw.

She was preceded in death by parents; brother: Billy D. Horn, Aug. 24, 2014; brother: Larry G. Horn, Nov. 28, 2001.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood. Pastor Jim Larson, Otterbein United Methodist Church and Butch Troke, Beaver Dam United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in Harrison Center, Etna Green.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Otterbein United Methodist Church, Salvation Army or Shrine Crippled Children.

M. Margene ClaseM. Margene Clase, 74, passed away unexpectedly in her Warsaw home at 7:35 a.m. Friday,  Aug. 21, 2015.

Margene was born Nov. 6, 1940, in Warsaw to Raymond and Marie (Priser) Haines.  A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, she had been a sales representative at CVS for 12 years. Margene was a past president of Senior’s Our Night Out.

Left with treasured memories is her daughter: Kim Clase, Etna Green; three granddaughters: Autumn (Dustin) Clase-Helblig, Warsaw; Hailey Ross; and Sierra Ross, both of Etna Green; two grandsons: Dakota Ross; Jared Peters, both of Etna Green; three great-grandchildren: Kya; Kohyn; and Jackson; sister and brother-in-law: Jeanne and Tom Edgar, Warsaw; and stepmother: Ardis Haines, Warsaw.

Margene is preceded in death by her mother: Marie Haines, on April 11, 1991; father: Raymond Haines, on June 27, 2006; and son: Jason Clase, on Feb. 22, 1991.

Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of one another  from  4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25,  at Titus Funeral Home. A service celebrating Margene’s life will follow beginning at 6 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Hall officiating. A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the Etna Green Cemetery.

Gifts in Margene’s memory may be given to the family and will be used at their discretion. Please make your gift payable to Kim Clase.

Penelope ‘Penny’ Lynn Shapiro

Penny ShapiroPenelope “Penny” Lynn Shapiro of Warsaw, passed away at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center of Fort Wayne, at the age of 48.

She was a 1985 graduate of Putnam County High School in Granville, Ill., and later she attended Illinois Valley College for two years.  She worked for many years as a flight attendant with Continental Airlines.

She had been a resident of Kosciusko County, for the past eight years.  Penny was very involved in her children’s school activities and was a wonderful supporter and volunteer of Warsaw School Corporation.  Her love was so pure and genuine that she received the same in return from all of the people she shared her journey through life with.

She was born on July 5, 1967, in Spring Valley, Ill. to Robert Edward Munson and Linda Lou (Jefffrey) Munson who both survive in Granville, Ill.  On Nov. 24, 1990, she was married in Utica, Ill. to Michael Reid Shapiro, who survives in Warsaw.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four sons:  Matthew; Jacob; Joshua; Samuel Shapiro; and her daughter: Hannah, all at home in Warsaw. Also surviving is her brother: Robert (Brai) Munson, Minooka, Ill.

Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate her life at a memorial service that will be conducted at noon Saturday, Aug. 29, in the gymnasium at Lincoln Elementary, Warsaw. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Memorial donations may be directed to Lincoln Elementary School, Warsaw, and would be appreciated by the family. Please designate funds for Lincoln PTO in memory of Penny Shapiro.

Richard ‘Dick’ Roberds

Richard 'Dick' RoberdsRichard “Dick” Roberds, 81, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. He was born Oct. 14, 1933, to Clifford and Ignota Roberds in Warsaw.

Dick attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, and graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1955. He was proud member of Phi Kappa Psi. He served his country from January 1956 to January 1958 on active duty, and was in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1960.

He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class. After his service, Dick began his 44 year career in merchandising and held Senior Executive positions at both Dillard’s and Macy’s. In his spare time, Dick loved playing golf.

Richard is survived by his loving wife: Betty Roberds; daughters: Laura (partner Susan Elmer) Roberds; and Brenda (John) Morgan; grandchildren: Chris (Jana) Morgan; Brice (Lynn) Morgan; great-grandchildren: Caleb; Max; Wellsley Morgan; and sister: Jo Ellen (Jack) Mack.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, San Antonio, Texas. The memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the chapel at Porter Loring North.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
