Earl MichaelEarl Michael, 96, of Warsaw, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2015, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born April 28, 1919, in Nappanee, IN to Mervin and Elmeda (Wagner) Michael.

He was a 65year resident of Warsaw. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a Staff Sergeant with Company H 135th Medical Regiment from 1941 to 1945. He served as a Machine Operator for the Christner Gravel Company. A member of First Christian Church of Warsaw he was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 49 of Warsaw.

He was united in marriage to Mary Osborne in Warsaw on Oct. 13, 2001.

Survivors include his wife Mary Michael of Warsaw; a son David Michael of Indianapolis; stepson Pat (spouse Jane) McClure of Spartanburg, S.C. and stepdaughter Kathy (Doug) Horton of Carmel. In addition, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Clara Mae Michael on Jan. 28, 2001; one sister and three brothers.

Visitation hours are scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, with Pastor Gary Boschain officiating, also at McHatton-Sadler. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors performed by Warsaw American Legion Post No. 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1126 of Warsaw.

Ronnie PoeRonnie Poe, 60, Warsaw, passed away at 9:31 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2015, in his residence.

He was born May 17, 1955, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Amos and Annie (McGuire) Poe. He was united in marriage to Deanna Korb on June 23, 1979, in Burket. She survives. Ronnie moved to Warsaw in 1965, where he worked as a self-employed auto mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years: Deanna Poe, Warsaw; two sons: Ryan Poe; and Aaron Poe, both of Warsaw; and his granddaughter: Illeanah Poe, Warsaw.

A memorial gathering will be at a later date. Burial will be private.

loy stoverLoy H. Stover, 76, died at 8:43 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born June 15, 1939, in Howard County, to Esmond and Bessie (Lovel) Stover. He was a 1958 graduate of Kokomo High School and married Maxine Mills on March 4, 1961, in Kokomo. He served in the United States Army, and was employed by Fleet, Inc., for 40 years. He retired in 2005 as an environmental and safety director. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he was an elder.

Loy is survived by his wife: Maxine Stover, Warsaw; two daughters: Laura Hunter, Warsaw; Leslie Oberg, Warsaw; one son: Michael (Jennifer) Stover, North Manchester; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister: Roselee (Stanley) White, Mooresville. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Warsaw, before the 2 p.m. service, officiated by Elder Ray Salazar. Memorials can be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Murray ‘Rick’ F. Rutledge Jr.

Murray RutledgeMurray “Rick” F. Rutledge Jr., 71 of Warsaw passed away at 8:37 p.m. Friday July 3, 2015, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born on April 9, 1944, to Murray F. Sr. and Vaudean (Sawyer) Rutledge in Carbon Hill, AL. He was united in marriage to Margaret “Peg” Biltz on January 21, 2003 in Key West, FL., who survives.

Rick was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He was a 1962 graduate of Warsaw High School. He served in the US Army, serving in Germany then returning back to the US with an honorable discharge in 1965.  Back in the 1960’s he worked for Warsaw Police Department as a patrolman for 3 years. He retired from Sprint as Linemen after 3o years.

Rick was a devoted Christian. He enjoyed classic cars, a competition judge in horse shows, he was also an excellent horse rider and he loved all animals. He was known as the gentle giant.

He is survived by his daughter: Heather Rutledge, Warsaw; sisters: Joy Ann Conley, Warsaw; Sherry White, Tenn.; a brother: Kenneth (Brenda) Rutledge, N.D.; many nieces and nephews; three step-grandchildren: Alex James Maxwell, Warsaw; Kaleb Matthew Maxwell; and Tristin Kenneth Maxwell, Fort Wayne; and his beloved dog, Molly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Wanda Dickey; and Helen Hope Jones; and a brother: Kerry Leon Rutledge.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday July 14, at American Legion Circle, Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. There will be military honor by the American Legion Post 49, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 both of Warsaw and the Military Funeral Honor Guard. Pastor Bob Brown will officiate. No calling is planned.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers that the contribution be made to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County.

Raymond EarlRaymond P. Earl, 63 of Warsaw, went to meet his Lord at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, in his residence.

On March 14, 1952, he was born in Knoxville, Tenn. to Jack and Edith (Stanifer) Earl. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Boden on Aug. 8, 1981 in Warsaw, who survives.

Living most of his life in Warsaw, Ray worked in retail. He also managed Christian book stores, and then became a supplier for the Christian book stores. He was a member of First Christian Church, Warsaw.

Ray is survived by his wife: Becky Earl, Warsaw; his daughter: Bethany (Ryan) Maxcey, Waukesha, Wis.; his brother: Don Earl, Warsaw; four sisters: Betty Smith, Fla.; Judy Fleming, Warsaw; Jane Earl, Warsaw; Patricia Welker, Warsaw; and his mother-in-law: Carol Boden, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his son: Danny Earl; his brother: Albert Earl; and his father-in-law: Raymond Paul Boden.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the First Christian Church, Warsaw, with Pastor Gary Boschain officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at the church before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts may be given for the ongoing missionary work of the Boden family. Checks may be made to the New Horizons Fellowship.

Smith, JerryJerry L. Smith, 85, Warsaw, died at 4:41 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born June 20, 1930, to Walter B. and Agnes (Harman) Smith, and was a 1948 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. He graduated from Manchester University in 1952 with a degree in education. He married Wylan Titus on Aug. 19, 1950, in Warsaw, and was a life time Warsaw resident.

Jerry was the owner of the Buffalo Street Dry Cleaners until he sold out to Rex Wildman. He then purchased Rohrbach Cleaners in Columbia City. He also had a rental property business until his retirement. Jerry was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed music and movie collecting, boating, gardening, traveling, and travel clubs.

He is survived by his daughter: Cindy (Gary) Goshert, Ligonier; son: Tal Smith, Indianapolis; three grandchildren: Gretchen Goshert, Milford; Megan Grimes, Zionsville; and James Hoyt, Indianapolis; one great-grandson: Corwin Hoyt; and one great-granddaughter: Sienna Reese Grimes. He is preceded in death by his wife: Wylan T. Smith, on Dec. 16, 2004; brother: Ned Smith, on April 1, 2006; and sisters: Virginia Powell, on July 8, 2014; Margaret Williamson, on Jan. 14, 2002; and June Longenbaugh, on June 6, 2012.

Visitation is scheduled from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will begin at 2 p.m. after visitation, also at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor David Hummel, Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Renee Ann Alley

Renee Ann AlleyReene Ann Alley, 80, passed away July 5, 2015.

Formerly of Indianapolis, Reene lived in Tallmadge and Akron, Ohio since 1989.  A retired educator, she taught at the University of Akron and Youngstown State from 1989 to 2002. She started teaching math, chemistry and physics at the middle and high school levels in northern Indiana teaching. Moving to Indianapolis in 1968, she became the first female math department head and junior high assistant principal in the area at Westlane Junior High.  She also served as principal of Westfield Middle School.  She was a published author and respected expert on McGuffy Readers and antique textbooks.

Reene’s education included a B.S. in Chemistry from Ball State University in Muncie, an M.S. in Mathematics from Purdue University and, an Ed.D. from Indiana University in School Administration.

Wherever she lived, Reene was very active in her community and received numerous awards and honors for both her paid and volunteer work. She recently received the Community Service Award from the National Societies of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Akron Chapter, and in 1989, Indiana Governor Evan Bayh awarded her with the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest civilian honor in the state. She loved books, music, traveling, shopping and her family.

She was preceded in death by her daughter: Carol Lynn Alley; and her sister: Jean Lynch. Renee is survived by her children: Carijane (Richard) Kluger; and Jay (Julie Godfrey) Alley, Indianapolis; and Steven (Helaine Levy) Alley, Tuscon, Ariz.; grandchildren: Jacob Rauscher; Max Alley; Jenn (Nick) Smith; Eric Alley; Patrick Kluger; and Alexandra Kluger; great-grandchildren: Lexi; and Ryleigh Smith; Noah Rauscher; sister: Mary (Bob) Wagner, Warsaw.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her honor to the “Reene Ann Shue Alley Educational Research Support Fund for Doctoral Students”  care of the Youngstown State University Foundation.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Dr., Tallmadge with Pastor Sarah D. Courtney officiating. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be Private.

 

William L. Snider

William Snyder ObitWilliam L. Snider, 89 of Warsaw, passed away at 6:55 a.m Monday, May 25, 2015, in Mason and Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.

On Dec. 13, 1925, he was born in Connersville, to Francis and Ruby (Showalter) Snider. He was united in marriage to Lila Smith in 1950 who preceded him death and then he married Julia Gebert in 1965, who also preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Peggy (Breland) Edmonds in 2001, who survives. William served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He had worked for various companies in his life, including, Uhl and Snider Milling, Connersville; Olin Corporation/Winchester Rifle as a professional trap and skeet exhibition shooter; Central Soya, Fort Wayne in Mill and Manger Sales and Investors Diversified Services, Evansville as an investment manager. William also was a manager for Steckleys Mill and Hatchery, Orland; Snider Insurance Agency, Warsaw and was the developer of Silver Fox, Warsaw.

He is survived by his wife: Peggy Snider, Warsaw; two daughters: Kimberly (Ronald) Fennell, Wolcottville; and Beth (Patrick) Moran, South Bend, his son: Steve (Lorie) Snider, Yorktown; stepson: J. Ryan Edmonds, San Francisco, Calif.; stepdaughter: Jasmine (John) Cole, Pensacola, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son: Dan Snider; and two brothers: James Snider; and George Snider.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, in Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, with Pastor Dave Hummel officiating. Burial will be private.

Leo D. Kerber Jr.

Leo KerberLeo D. Kerber Jr., 65, of Warsaw, passed away on Dec. 18, 2014, at his residence.  He was born on April 8, 1949 in Woodstock, Illinois.

Leo D. Kerber aka Lee, was a longtime resident of Warsaw. He was born to Leo D. and Margaret Kerber.

Lee graduated Warsaw High School in 1967. He then attended St. Joseph College in Rensselaer. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1971. He returned to Warsaw after college and retired from Ranger Materials where he worked for over 20 years as a Bookkeeper.

He was a member of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw where he became a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his two nieces Kathleen Marie McCoy and Christine Lee Milliken, Indianapolis; Paul and Jean Kerber, Colfax, Ill.; Lynn Kerber, Leesburg; brothers in-law: Tom Maher, Kokomo; and Darwin Call, Warsaw.

He is preceded in death by his father: Leo D. Kerber, Leesburg; his mother: Margaret Tassie, Union City, Mich.; his sister: Barbara Ann Maher, Kokomo; and his uncle: Robert Kerber, Colfax, Ill.

Lee was an exceptional son, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. Throughout his life, he craved knowledge and was rarely seen without a book or newspaper in his hand.  His compassion, sweet nature, sense of humor and laughter are deeply missed by his remaining family.

Services and Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Oswego Cemetery, Leesburg, by Father Phil DeVolder. McHatton-Sadler is entrusted to the family for services.

Robert “Bob” J. Bledsoe, 41, Elk Grove Village, Ill., died at 11:18 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, while holding his wife’s hand in Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Ill.

He was born Sept. 25, 1973, in Fort Wayne, to James “Timm” and Susan M. (Gresso) Bledsoe, and was a 1992 graduate of Northridge High School, Middlebury. He married Rose Dolcimascolo on March 13, 2011, and worked as a communication tech. He enjoyed golf and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife: Rosa Bledsoe, Elk Grove Village, Ill.; three daughters: Alyson Bledsoe; Veronica Alejandre; Sabrina Alejandre; parents: Tim and Susan Bledsoe, Bristol; sister: Alissa M. (Ryan) McClane, Goshen; brother: Bryant James (Partner Shawn Clancy) Bledsoe, Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandparents.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, and will be officiated by Rev. Barry Heath. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, Oklahoma City, Okla., or www.cancer.org.

Eugene Earl TeeterEugene Earl Teeter, of Gene’s Stump Grinding, Warsaw, passed away at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at his residence at the age of 79.

He enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard on July 22, 1959, serving for three years until his honorable discharge on July 21, 1962. Gene worked various jobs throughout his life. He sold tires at the New Paris Speedway in New Paris; retired as the mechanic from Preston Trucking in South Bend; he plowed snow in Mishawaka and he was the owner of Gene’s Stump Grinding of Warsaw.

Gene was a member of Dutchtown Brethren Church in Warsaw, he loved hunting, fishing and working with trees. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Gene was born on June 1, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to Harold Emmanuel Teeter and Myrtle Irene (Vardaman) Teeter. On July 24, 1965 he was married to Mary L. Bollart, who passed away on Dec. 19, 1984. He was re-married on Sept. 27, 2003 to Anna Lou Phillips Teeter, who survives in Warsaw.

He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Tammy (Joe) Higginbotham, Buchanan, Mich.; Peggy (Mathew) Podemski, Warsaw; Tina (David) Sohlke, Mishawaka; son: Robert Teeter, South Bend; and three stepdaughters: Deborah (Mike) Hoover, Warsaw; Semone (Donald) Miller, Milford; Mary Kay McDonald, South Bend; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife: Mary L. Teeter, in 1984; two brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw. His funeral service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at the funeral home, and will be officiated by Pastor Jack Worth. A graveside service will take place at 11:30 a.m.  at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be directed to I.U. Health Goshen Hospice, Goshen, and would be appreciated by his family.

Robert William ‘Coach’ Lichtenwalter

LichtenwalterRobert William “Coach” Lichtenwalter, 88, of Warsaw, passed away at 10:27 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, in Hospice Home of Fort Wayne. He was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Warsaw, to Ralph and Naomi (Young) Lichtenwalter and was a lifetime Warsaw resident.

He faithfully served his Country during WWII in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 and was discharged as a Corporal. In Warsaw, on March 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Suzanne Rigdon who preceded him June 22, 2005. He received a B.A. in Education from Manchester College and a M.A. in Education from St. Francis College. He was formerly employed by Warsaw Community Schools as a teacher and coach and was a longtime Executive Director of the Baker Youth Club.

Social, professional memberships and awards include St. Anne’s Episcopal Church where he was a Founding Member; John C. Peterson American Legion Post #49, Warsaw where he was Lifetime Member and served as Post Commander and a member of the Honor Guard; 80-year member of the Baker Youth Club and Boys & Girls Club of America and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the national organization; B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #802 where he served as Exalted Ruler; Kosciusko County Historical Society; Indiana State Teachers Association; a former member of the Board of Directors of the Kosciusko County YMCA and the City-County Athletic Complex; Warsaw Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year 1974; numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to Warsaw Athletics during his lifetime; awarded The Order of Kosciusko by Post American Legion Post #49 for his contributions to local veterans and his community.

Survivors include daughters: Judy (Michael) Kinsey, Warsaw; Malissa Lichtenwalter, Auburndale, Mass.; grandchildren: Sean (Erin) Kinsey, Mount Horeb, Wis.; Amy Kinsey Ireland, Indianapolis; Megan (Raavi) Kinsey Iqbal, Philadelphia, Pa.; great-grandchildren: Angus and Malcolm Kinsey, Wis.; Paddy and Ryan Ireland, Indianapolis; and Remi Kinsey Iqbal, Philadelphia, Pa.; and half-sister: Sarah Catherine (Gary) Mann, Farwell, Mich. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Betty Jo Wade; and brother: Russel Lichtenwalter.

Visitation hours are scheduled from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. MOnday, July 20, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Warsaw. A funeral mass is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at the church with Reverend Corinne Hodges officiating. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #49, VFW Post #1126 and the Indiana A.R.N.G..

He was born Aug. 21, 1930, in North Liberty, Pa., to Hiram and Lois (McCandless) VanCleve. He was a 1948 graduate of Wilkensburg High School, in Wilkensburg, Pa. He entered the United States Army, served as a MP during the Korean War. PFC Harold J. VanCleve was honorably discharged on May 18, 1961. He moved from Pa. in 1949 to Warsaw and has lived in Warsaw since. He was an adjuster with Auto Owners Insurance Company for 38 years, retiring in 1995.

Harold attended Dutchtown Brethren Church, and was a member of the Warsaw American Legion Post #49.

He is survived by two sisters: Ruth Griswold, Warsaw; Lois Strum, Fredericksburg, Va.; one brother: Don VanCleve, Longwood, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by mother: Lois VanCleve, on Aug. 21, 1991, father: Hiram VanCleve, Jan. 6, 1973; and sister: Dorothy VanCleve, on March 1, 2010.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until noon Monday, July 20, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. The service will be at noon after the service, and will be officiated by Pastor Jack Worth, of Dutchtown Brethren Church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
