Richard E. Lowe

Richard E. Lowe, 62, Warsaw, entered the gates of heaven Monday evening March 5, 2018.

There was a distinct look of enlightenment in his eyes prior to taking his last breath. He was surrounded by an adoring mother, loving daughter and an army of siblings. He was loved by all for his humble spirit, zest for life, kind and gentle nature. He made time for everyone and greeted all with a warm welcoming smile. “Ricky” made the world a better place and will be sadly missed in the community.

He was born on March 29, 1955, in Fort Wayne to Phil O. Lowe and Mary Louise (Suelzer) Lowe.

He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County where he was a 1973 graduate of Warsaw High School. He was a residential and commercial painter and the owner of The Picky Painter in Warsaw. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Warsaw.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Carly Lowe, Indianapolis; and his mother, Mary Louise Lowe, Warsaw. He also leaves behind six brothers: Mike (wife Connie) Lowe, Pueblo, Colo.; John (wife Katie) Lowe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.; Jim (wife Jackie) Lowe, Granger; Tom (wife Amy) Lowe, Warsaw; Phil (wife Denise) Lowe, Cape Coral, Fla.; Joe Lowe, Flagstaff, Ariz.; five sisters: Anita (husband Denny) Fitzgerald, Findlay, Ohio; Marty (husband Owen) Altman, Delray Beach, Fla.; Susan (husband Paul) Scheuer, Warsaw; Sharon Semmer, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mary Pat Wallen, Warsaw; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Phil O. Lowe and his beloved brother-in-law Robert Semmer.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Friday, March 16, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 125 N. Harrison Street, Warsaw.

Bonnie E. Lee, 67, Warsaw, passed away at 8:14 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2018, in her residence. She was born Aug. 11, 1950, to William “Ben” and Violet (Swiek) Wagner in Hammond.

Ms. Lee was a nurse practitioner receiving her degrees from Bethel and Grace College. She worked for Kosciusko County Health Department for 16 years. Also, Kosciusko Community Hospital and the last 21 years as a Nurse Practitioner at Topeka Physicians, Topeka. She also taught nursing school at Bethel and Grace College and many other places.

She was a loving caregiver to all and who always listened to her patients. She loved her flower especially her roses.

She has been a Warsaw resident since 1974.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Warsaw.

Ms. Lee is survived by her children: Patrick Rosdil of Albion; and Penny (Rick) Ruppert of Rochester; two brothers: Ben “Benny” Wagner of Gobles, Mich.; and Larry Wagner of Hebron; grandchildren: Samantha Ruppert, Jeffrey Ruppert and Emily Rosdil; Bonnie was also an aunt to eight nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, March 10, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

A memorial service will also be held at noon, Saturday at the Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Need officiating. A private Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, Indiana.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers that the memorial contributions be made to the Goshen Health Foundation, PO Box 139, Goshen, IN 46527-0139 and or Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund, PO Box 1810, Warsaw, IN 46581-1810.

Christian DeHaven

Christian “Chris” DeHaven, 64, Warsaw, passed away at 7:58 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2018, in his residence. 

He was born on Aug. 9, 1953, to David and JoAnne (Grasso) DeHaven in Glendora, Calif.

He was a former resident of Torrance, Calif., graduated high school in Commack Long Island, N.Y. and has been a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 12 years. 

On Feb. 14, 1988, he was united in marriage to Carol (Dudek) DeHaven in Las Vegas, N.V.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy; during his time in the service he was stationed in the Philippines. He worked in the technology industry as a business analyst.  He was a member of Warsaw Community Church and played bass guitar in the worship team band; formerly he attended Community Grace Brethren Church as well. 

In addition; he enjoyed table tennis, billiards, and bicycling. He loved his Golden Retrievers and especially loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carol DeHaven, Warsaw; sons, Maxwell (spouse Josi) DeHaven, Middlebury; Anthony DeHaven, Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren; brothers: Paul DeHaven, Erich DeHaven; sisters: Belinda Penrose, Nina Donnelly, Concetta Matosian; sister-in-law: Cathy (spouse Patrick) Redmond; and a nephew: Adam Redmond also survives. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl DeHaven.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.  McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with all arrangements.

Joan “Joni” Renee Clay, 48, Warsaw, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. She was born Aug., 5, 1969, in Huntington, to Greg D. and Jane E. (Underhill) Smith.

She has been a Warsaw resident since 1977 and was formerly of Huntington. On Sept. 30, 1995, she was united in marriage to Lon J. Clay in North Manchester. She worked at Biomet for 26 years in various positions. She was a member of Warsaw Community Church. In addition, she was an avid reader and gardener. She also loved her dogs and grand-dogs.

She is survived by her husband; four children: Samuel (Holly) Richardson, Battle Ground; Kailin Clay, Kylee Clay and Courtney Clay, all of Warsaw; her mother, Jane and step-father, James Friermood, Huntington;; siblings: Jeff Smith, Peoria, Ariz.; Jennifer Frankle, Huntington.

She was preceded in death by her father, Greg Smith.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m., Monday, March 12, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.  A funeral service with one hour prior visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the chapel. 

At the family’s request visitors are asked to refrain from wearing black clothing. 

Pastor Jeff Pfiefer will officiate the Funeral Service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Ruby “Penny” Shively

Ruby F. “Penny” Wallace, Ross, Shively, 93, Fort Wayne, formally of Warsaw, passed away Thursday March 8, 2018, at 8:15 a.m. in Heritage Park Assisted Living & Garden Homes, Fort Wayne. She was born Nov. 26, 1924, to Frank and Pearl (Bennett) Wallace in Argos. Penny moved to Fort Wayne in 2006 to be near to her son and daughter.

She has two daughters, Jeanetta Greathouse Addington, Mishawaka, and Wendy Ross Hill, Fort Wayne; two sons, Steve Ross, Hernando, Fla., and Herb Ross, Leo; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pearl Wallace, Plymouth, seven brothers, one sister, one granddaughter, and husband Merle Shively.

She was employed at United Telephone Company in Warsaw until retirement in 1986. She was a long time member at the Claypool Methodist Church.

She spent most of her life in Warsaw.  She and Merle started a small travel bus business, taking friends and relatives to Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds baseball games. Sometimes they would take excursions to various places in the continental United States and Canada. They enjoyed their retirement traveling together.

She and Merle enjoyed bowling. They both bowled a couple of times a week at Gilliam’s Bowling Lanes in Warsaw. She enjoyed going to the bowling tournaments throughout the United States. In 1969 she won first place in three separate categories.

She enjoyed going to see her great grandchildren’s sporting events. She often said she missed talking to her brothers and sister. They were all gone. The sole surviving brother passed away in the spring of 2012. She was ready to join them and her parents, her husband and her granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with a funeral service to follow in the funeral chapel with Chaplain Fred Meuter officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

The family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund, PO Box 1810, Warsaw, IN. 46581-1810.

 


Robert James Ruhlen

Robert James Ruhlen, 67, Sidney, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community where he was in physical rehabilitation.

He was born Feb. 21, 1951, in Kenton, Ohio, a son of the late Richard and Marian (Arnett) Ruhlen. His formative years were spent in the Kenton area where he graduated from Hardin High School, Kenton in 1969.

He had lived in rural South Whitley since 2005 and for the past three years, Sidney.

In 1985, he went to work for the Black Lake Lodge, Whitley County as a counselor. Later, he worked for Medtronic’s in Warsaw.  From 1995 to 2016, he was employed by Wabash Valley, Silver Lake.

An accomplished small engine repairman, he enjoyed collecting, restoring and showing small gasoline engines.  He participated in the bowling leagues at the Warsaw Bowl, Warsaw.

He is survived by his two daughters, Torie (Travis) Galloway of Sidney and Tina M. Ruhlen, Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister Janeane (Don) Steiner, Kansas City, Kansas and two brothers, George (Carol) Ruhlen, Dunkirk, Ohio and Dave (Pam) Ruhlen, Kenton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Micah and a brother, Jerry Ruhlen.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The family will receive guest on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date in the South Whitley Cemetery.

James E. Lough

James E. ”Jim” Lough, 96, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Warsaw Meadows in Warsaw. He was born in Angola on July 17, 1921, to Coy O. and Martha (Pollock) Lough.

On Sept. 12, 1944, he married Virginia J. Hicks in Indianapolis. They lived in several locations before making their final home on Lake Papakeechie. He worked worked for the South Bend Bait and Tackle Company for 16 years retiring as V.P of Sales. He loved fishing and traveling with his wife.

He served his country state side as a 2nd Lieutenant Pilot Instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of Grace Bible Baptist Church in New Paris.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, parents, brothers, John M. Lough, Robert Norwood Lough and sister Marguerite Avonelle Lough.

Survivors include a sister, Marilyn J. Pattinson of Boca Raton, Fla.; sons, Mark Lough of Onekama, Mich.; Jeff (Debrah) Lough of Dayton, Ohio; and John (Jo) Lough of Greenbank, Wash.; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 16, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Mike Gross will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.

Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Donald E. Frantz

Donald E. Frantz died March 15, 2018, at Grace Village in Warsaw. He was 92.

He co-owned and operated Frantz Lumber Co. in North Manchester for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1987. Since then, he divided his time between Tippecanoe Lake and Deltona. He only recently moved to Grace Village.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1925, to Oakley Paul and Marie Aileen (Pottenger) in North Manchester. He graduated from Chester High School and Purdue University and served as a radar operator in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Jo Joyce “Jody” Urschel on Jan. 31, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in North Manchester. They had been married for 58 years when she died in April 2006.

He was a member of the first consolidated Manchester Community School Board and a trustee of the Peabody Home Foundation as well as other organizations. He was a lifelong member of Rotary International and the American Legion. Last fall, he joined other WW II veterans from Indiana on an “honor flight” to Washington, D.C.

An avid golfer, he was a member of Tippecanoe Lake Country Club in Leesburg for more than half a century. On his 92nd birthday in November, he sank a 110-foot birdie put on the first hole of Deltona Golf Club and shot an 88. It was the 64th time he had shot his age or better.

Frantz is survived by three sons, Doug of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Joe of North Manchester, and Thom of Clinton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as a sister, Nancy Nicholson of Spearman, Texas. He was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnne Hurley, and brother, Richard G. Frantz.

Brent Allan Howard

Brent Allan Howard, 39, Warsaw, passed away unexpectedly at 4:08 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at his residence.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1979, in Warsaw, to Donald R. Howard and Linda (Barber) Fuller. He was married on July 3, 2005, to Dara (Dawalt) Howard, who survives.

He was a lifetime resident of Warsaw, where he was a 1997 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. He worked as a machinist for Precision Medical Technologies in Warsaw, and he also worked as an assistant pressman for RR Donnelley in Warsaw. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his family and friends.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 12 years, Dara Howard, Warsaw; and his son: Deacon H. Howard, Warsaw. Also surviving are his mother and step-father: Linda and Brian Fuller, Warsaw; step-mother: Ann M. Howard, Larwill; brother: Alex Fuller, Warsaw; sister: Heather (husband Brian) Sand, Warsaw; father-in-law: Jerry Dawalt, Warsaw; and three sisters-in-law: Sandra (husband Ken) Kidder, Fort Wayne; Angela (husband Doug) Reed, Warsaw; Jody Yeazel, Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald R. Howard, mother-in-law, Judy Dawalt, and his nephew, Austin Grindle.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, IN.

His funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home.

Roger D. Carey

Roger D. Carey, 84, Warsaw, passed away at 8:05 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Lake City Place in Warsaw. He was born on Oct. 27, 1932, in Huntington to Russell D. and Arlene L. (Prough) Carey.

He graduated from Huntington High School and Huntington College. He retired from the Huntington County Community Schools as a 6th grade Social Studies Teacher after many years. He lived in Huntington most of his life before moving to Warsaw in 2015.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Huntington and was a board member & volunteer for the Salvation Army in Huntington.

He is survived by seven nieces and nephews and many great and great-great neices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nancy Burchard, and brother, Bob Carey.

Cremation will take place at the Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N St. Rd. 15, Warsaw. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 23, at Gardens of Memory in Huntington. Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 & CR 500N, North Webster, is in charge of arrangements.

Dona Jean Hatfield

Dona Jean Hatfield, 94, died March 15, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw.

She was born Aug. 20, 1923, to Paul and Ocie (Parker) Newcomb. On Oct. 22, 1946, she married George Davis Hatfield who died Dec. 25, 2009.

Surviving are a son, Chip (Paula) Gast, Warsaw; daughter, Kim (Kent) Ring, Claypool; four grandchildren: Doug Yarian, Warsaw; Chad (Fayth) Silveus, Phoenix, Ariz.; Samira (Daniel) Myers, Lake Placid, Fla.; Charissa (Matthew) Borden, Jupiter, Fla.; three great-grandchildren: Nilsson, Violet and Aiden.

She retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a postmaster at Burket. She served on various boards of the Burket United Methodist Church, was involved in the missions program, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Prayer and Share group. A gracious lady, she never had anything bad to say about anyone. She was well loved by all who knew her, and she reflected the love of Christ in many practical and encouraging ways.

Stacy Stine

Stacy Stine, born to Danny Lee and Charlotte V on Feb. 24, 1974, in Warsaw, passed away on March 16, 2018, in Prescott, Ariz. at age 44.

He is survived by his father, Danny, his older brothers Rodney (wife Theresa and children Ashley Bryant and Lance Menzie) and Christopher (children Zachary, Alexis, Hannah, and Danielle), his wife Christina Kelly (of Syracuse), and his five children, Wesley (21), Kaylin (19), Ethan (17), Rebekah (16), and Preston (14).

Mr. Stine battled Stage IV cancer for 2 ½ years- over two years longer than expected. He was a passionate and devoted husband, father, family member, scoutmaster (Troop 7195), business owner (Arizona Cap Co.), LDS church member (Stoneridge Ward, Prescott Valley, Ariz.), community leader (Arizona Republican Party member who held county and state positions), and party thrower.

Not only was he a well-educated traveler of the United States, but he was also well versed in world geography and international relations and took many friends on tours to other countries. While on this earth, he was typically found in the outdoors with his family and friends, reading from his enormous book collection, or scheming up countless business ventures.

He has now joined his mother, Charlotte, to continue in the Lord’s work.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7885 E Long Look Dr, Prescott Valley, Ariz. A memorial service will take place in Warsaw, later in the summer.

Angela Sue Marshall

Angela Sue Marshall, known by most as Angie, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in her Leesburg, home. She was surrounded by her loving family during her final moments, passing at 5:26 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1969, in Warsaw. She was the daughter of Douglas Pifer and Susan (Sechrist) Croy. Spending most of her lifetime in Warsaw and the surrounding area, she graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1988 before continuing on to earn an associate degree in business.

On Dec. 18, 1993, she was married to Robert Marshall at her mother’s home – a tradition recently followed by her own daughter, Natasha. Robert and Angie Marshall devoted 25 years to each other, sharing many happy memories.

She enjoyed many things, loved sunshine and reveled in the variety which life offered her. She loved music and attending concerts but also enjoyed crafting, golfing and fishing. She was known for her big, heart of gold and for her giving nature. She loved people and may have loved animals just as much. She enjoyed dinners out, family time by the campfire and mushroom hunting. Most of all, she was a caring, loving wife, mother and grandmother with a nurturing, giving grace and a strong faith in Christ.

In addition to her husband, Robert Marshall, she is survived by six children: Natasha Marshall-Stevens (Cody Stevens), Warsaw; Angela (Marcos) Diaz, Goshen; Tanisha (Jeremy) Railsback, Beaver Dam; Jessica (Tad) Denton, Syracuse; Amanda Marshall, Warsaw; and Robert Marshall, Jr., Syracuse; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters: Kelly Neeley, Warsaw; and Abigail Pifer, Warsaw; brother, John (Christa) Croy, Chapman Lake; father, Douglas Pifer, Warsaw and mother, Sue (Michael) Croy, Winona Lake. Additionally, she is survived by her fur babies, Zeek and Ollie and was preceded in death by her grandparents.

The family will receive friends and visitors at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw, from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, March 24, with funeral services following. Pastors Jamy Gregory and Jeff Pfeifer of Warsaw Community Church will officiate.

Larry D. Richardson of Warsaw, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, at the age of 61.

Eleanor M. Rapsavage, 93, Warsaw, died Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Mason Health Care Center.

She was born on Sunday, June 8, 1924, in Pana, Ill. She was the only daughter of John and Emma (Desatnick) Baga. She grew up on the north end of Pana with her five brothers. She attended Sacred Heart School and she graduated from Pana Township High School. After high school, she worked at a munitions factory near Illiopolis during WWII. Following the war, she worked at the Pana Glove factory, before moving to Warsaw a few years later. It was in Warsaw where she would meet Philip Rapsavage. They were married on Sept. 23, 1950, in Sacred Heart Church in Warsaw where she was a member for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Rapsavage; son, Roger Rapsavage (fiancée, Darlene Burkel); grandson, Ryan (Lindsay) Rapsavage and great-grandson, Raiden Rapsavage, all of Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Baga; five brothers: John, Andy, Victor, Gilbert and Michael Baga; daughter, Suzy Rapsavage; and great granddaughter, Lainey Kay Rapsavage.

The family will receive friends at noon, Wednesday, March 28, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pana. Mass of Christian burial will follow, beginning at one o’clock with Father Rodney Schwartz officiating. Her burial will follow in Pana Township’s Calvary Cemetery.
