Mary E. Marsillett

Mary E. Marsillett, 82, Warsaw, passed away at 6:01 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. She was born Dec. 24, 1934 in Lancer, Ky. to Thomas and Nancy (Griffith) Estepp.

She was united in marriage to Ervin Marsillett on Oct. 25, 1948 in Paintsville, Ky. Ervin preceded her on May 16, 1982. She retired from Danek (Medtronic) as an inspector.

Mary is survived by her children Judy (spouse Jon) Mauk, Mary (spouse Norm) McKinney, Earl Thomas (spouse Peggy) Marsillett and Harold Edward (spouse Nicole) Marsillett all of Warsaw; siblings Katherine (spouse Homer) Alley of Southgate, Mich., James (Betty) Estepp of Garrison, Ky., Otis (spouse Janice) Estepp of Columbus, Ohio, and Lee Sparks of Plainville, Ohio. In addition, 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren survive.

Furthermore, Mary was preceded by her children Ervin, Jr., Charles “Junior”, Laura Evelyn and Otis Edward Marsillett. Siblings that preceded her include Bobbie May, Verna Fay, Ilene, Thomas Lloyd and Raleigh Estepp and Lorraine Conley and a great-granddaughter Miranda McKinney.

Visitation hours are scheduled from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel with Pastor William Whitaker officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Phillip L. “Phil” Abbett, 85, Warsaw, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at his home. He was born on June 4, 1932 in Hunts, Ark/ to Oral W. and Goldie (Feighner) Abbett.

He attended Huntington Public Schools and was married on June 6, 1952 in Huntington to Phyllis J. Henmyer, who preceded him on Dec. 6, 2014. He and his wife moved to the Warsaw area in 1956 from Huntington. He formerly worked for Likens Seawall in North Webster, Paul Baugher Construction in North Webster, was a bus driver for North Webster School, Steve Wilcox Well Drilling in Sidney, and was a delivery man for Sears in Warsaw.   

He attended the Country Bible Church in North Webster and formerly attended the North Webster Church of God.

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Gus) Ditsch, South Bend; brother, Ryndard Abbett, Huntington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two daughters, Belinda Abbett and Sheila Abbett, son, Todd Abbett, sister, Virginia Sheller, and brother, William Abbett.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Country Bible Church, 4782 N 850E, North Webster with Pastor Myron Drent officiating. Private burial will take place in the Glenwood Cemetery in Roanoke. Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 & CR 500N, North Webster is in charge of arrangements.

Douglas L. Willcox

Douglas L. Willcox, 67, Warsaw, passed away at 4:34 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Oct. 18, 1950 in Wabash County to Claude R. and Darl (Wagner) Willcox. He was an engineer and a member of Urbana Yoke Parish, Urbana.

Doug served four years in the US Marines.

He is survived by his mother, Darl Willcox, Warsaw, IN; brother, Tyler Willcox, North Manchester; sister, Jennifer (William) Chapman, Woodburn, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no public services.

David Lee Sommers

David Lee Sommers, Warsaw, passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, at the age of 76.

He was born June 18, 1941 in Portland to David W. Sommers and Mattie Marie (Henry) Sommers.  On June 15, 1962 he was married to Linda Lou (Updike) Sommers, who survives in Warsaw.

David graduated from Dunkirk High School in Dunkirk in 1960. He worked at Armstrong Glass Factory in Dunkirk, and at Westinghouse in Muncie. David was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 35 years moving to Warsaw in 1982. He worked at DePuy in Warsaw until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed fishing, coaching little league, was car racing enthusiast, even horse racing.  At Christmas he loved to play Santa Claus. He will be missed by family and friends.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Linda Lou Sommers, Warsaw; three sons: Anthony (wife Amy) Sommers, Warsaw; Dirk (wife Kristine) Sommers, Warsaw; John Sommers, Claypool; and his daughter: Danielle Sommers, Niagra Falls, New York. David also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Margaret.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16  at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 408 W. Catholic Street, Pierceton IN 46562 and celebrated by Reverend Father Chuck Herman.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Pierceton.

Memorial donations in David’s name may be directed to Joe’s Kids, 902 Provident Drive – Suite C, Warsaw, IN46580 and would be appreciated by the family.

Russell C. Hoffert — UPDATED

Russell C. Hoffert, 97, Fort Wayne, passed away at 5:11 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, in Parkview-Randallia Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born on June 11, 1920 in Larwill to George and Elizabeth (Leiter) Hoffert.

He was formerly a resident of Warsaw.  On April 26, 1943, he was united in marriage to Marjorie J. (Eaton) Hoffert in Auburn. Marjorie preceded Russell in death on July 14, 2008 and they were married for 65 years. During his life, Russell served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army. In the 1950’s he was the manager of Shine Shoe Store in Warsaw. In the early 1960’s he sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha. Russell owned Warsaw Interior Decorating in the 1970’s and was also the owner and operator of Fort Wayne Decorating in the 1980’s. Throughout his life he attended numerous churches including; First Baptist Church in Warsaw and Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne. 

He is survived by sons: Greg (spouse Carol) Hoffert of Warsaw, and Tim Hoffert of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren: Stephen (spouse Rachel) of Ringgold, Ga.; David (spouse Rachael) Hoffert of Warsaw, and Lauryn Hoffert of Fort Wayne; six great grandchildren also survive. 

Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hoffert and a brother, Archie Hoffert.

A private family gathering will take place at Fellowship Baptist Church, Warsaw.  Interment will be private and held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.  McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels are entrusted with all arrangements.

Memorial contributions in honor of Russell may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.

Zelda L. Brubaker Blackford — UPDATED

Zelda L. Brubaker Blackford, 85, Warsaw, passed away at 4:30 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, in Mason Health Care & Rehabilitation, Warsaw. She was born on Jan. 15, 1932 to Elmer and Esther (Horn) Sarber in Mentone.

She was married to her first husband Jack Brubaker in 1947 and preceded her in 1970, then she married Robert Blackford in November of 1982 and he preceded her on March 25, 2007.

Zelda trained employees for Jomac, Inc., she retired in 1982. She was a past member of Cook’s Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana.

She loved her cats, served on the Kosciusko County Election Board and Zelda loved to sing and she was a song leader at Cook’s Chapel.

Zelda is survived by her daughters, Susan Conley, Peg Brubaker, Rusty Brubaker, a step son Mike (Carol) Blackford, a step daughter, Anne (Herb) Bailey all of Warsaw; a brother, Eugene (Marie) Sarber, Warsaw; a sister, Fay Whetstone, Mentone; grandchildren, Melissa Brumfield, Doug Brumfield Jr, Shawn (Mary) Wentz, Chris Wentz, Shannon (Trace) Hansen, Haley (Brett) Reffitt, Carissa (Tyler) Bell, Caitlynne (Kyle) Champoux and Portia Brubaker; numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and a son, John E. Brubaker.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. with Pastor Marc Goodwin officiating.    

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Orrin Andrew “Andy” Hoffer, 81, Warsaw, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born on May 26, 1936 in Warsaw to Fred and Gladys Lucille (Hunter) Hoffer.

He graduated from Etna Green High School and was a lifetime resident of the Etna Green and Warsaw area. He was married on Feb. 29, 2004 in Puta Gorda, Fla. to Beverly Ann (Tinkey) who survives. He retired in 2001 as owner and operator of Hoffer Trucking Inc. and formerly worked as a driver for General Electric in Fort Wayne for many years.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1423, Rozella Ford Golf Club, and Kosciusko Community Senior Activity Club all in Warsaw, and Plymouth-Kilwinning Lodge #148 F & AM in Plymouth. Former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #1339, Fraternal Order of Elks, and Stonehenge Golf Club all in Warsaw. He enjoyed golf, reading computer, TV, travel, walking, all sports, and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his daughter, Lisa Fath, Palmetto, Fla.; four sons: Dirk A. Hoffer, Las Vegas, Nev.; Brian Miller, North Manchester; Darin (Lori) Miller, Columbia City; and Andrew F. (Monica) Hoffer, Douglas, Wyo.; three step daughters: Terri Lynn (Kevin) Eaton, Claypool; Carleen Sue (Mark) Quinlan, Granger; Allyson Ann (Tony) Fox, Bloomington; two step sons: Douglas William (Virginia) Clampit; Stephen Scott, (Terri) Clampitt, both of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren; two sisters: Jerri Beth Monesmith, Etna Green; and Sandy Lou Cain, Glasgow, Ky.; brother, Ron (Dana) Hoffer, Fort Wayne. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sam and Tom Hoffer.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd. 15, Warsaw with Pastor Jamy Gregory of Warsaw Community Church officiating. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.

Gary Eugene Oradat

Gary Eugene Oradat, 72, also known as “Big O” to many friends, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, from a 20 month’s courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. 

The love of his life, Linda Sue (Pressler) survives. They were married 54 years and had a very full life together. Family meant everything to Gary and he showed that to his three daughters LoriAnn Maynard (Brian), Kimberley Sue Himelick, and Stacey Lynn Carmichael (Bryan), by providing them with a beautiful carefree life.  He was also blessed with two amazing grandsons, Tyler Himelick (Ashley) and Maximilian Lima. 

He was incredibly proud of both of them and was always encouraging and supportive in every way.  It gave him great joy to spend time with all of them at their family dream home on Lake Sechrist. He also cherished his Golden Retrievers Rascal, Murphy and Maggie!

Gary also enjoyed NASCAR and most sporting events.  He loved riding his motorcycles over the years and travelling with Linda to so many fabulous destinations in their motor coach “Olivia”.

Gary and Linda started Oradat Builders Inc. in 1978 and later added The House Doctors of Marion.  He was proud of the many beautiful homes and neighborhoods they developed for old and new friends alike.  He retired from the Marion Fire Department as Assistant Chief and was one of the original founding members of the Dive Water Rescue team. He was humbled by the experience to be a civil servant to the city of Marion for over 20 years.  He and his brother Larry Oradat co-owned Erma’s Restaurant from 1981-1987, as well as, Erma’s Pantry’s and Stronghold Storage.  He was a self-made man and no stranger to hard work.

He is also survived by his brother, Larry Oradat (Debbie), mother-in-law Mary Cochern, brother- in-law Larry Pressler (Cheryl) of Fayetteville, Georgia, nieces Anne Marie Sweeney, Angela Howard (Sean) and Ashley Pressler, nephews Patrick Pressler (Tina), Nick Pressler (Jane), J.D. Pressler and several great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Mauldrid (Walthall) Oradat, father-in-law Robert Pressler, grandparents Walter and Amelia Oradat and Telfer and Lura Walthall.

The family will hold a private memorial service. A celebration of life will be held in the spring at the family lake home.  Date to be announced later.

Nathan D. Shepherd — UPDATED

Nathan D. Shepherd, 80, Warsaw, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Nov. 14, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born in David, Ky. to Sylvester and Nancy (Nelson) Shepherd on July 13, 1937. He was raised in Liberty Mills and went to Manchester High School. He was married to Juanita (Prater) on May 29, 1966 and they spent 51 wonderful years together.

At 17, Nathan began his service in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona for four years. Nathan worked at Dalton Foundry in Warsaw for 33 years and for the Kosciusko County courthouse for four years. 

He was a trustee at God’s Highway to Heaven for 35 years. His favorite hobbies included mowing, working on tractors, racing cars, spending time with his family and being an active member in the church.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Shepherd, Warsaw; brothers John and Dorothy Shepherd, Wabash; Abe and Laura Shepherd, Silver Lake; children Krystal and Burt Scarlett, Peru; Dale and Mary Shepherd, Peru; Julie and Vaughn Avery, Michigan; Nancy and Brian Marshall, Milord; Mindi and Rodney Poehler, Frankfort, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, many loving family members and his church family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and a daughter.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Mchatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at God’s Highway to Heaven with Reverend Robert “Bob” Brown officiating. with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Renate W. Kuhn, 77, Warsaw, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017.

Born in DU-Homberg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Josef and Johanna Landersdorfer.

Surviving are her daughter, Manuela (Hartmut Hillenhagen); granddaughters, Nicole (Randy Sutton) and Kristen Lutteringer; and great grandson, Lucas, all of Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, T. Mike Kuhn.

A remembrance gathering will be held from noon until 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Tippee River Dows, 2601 Arlington Lane, Warsaw. Memorials may be made to KCH Cancer Care Center or ASPCA/SPCA Humane Society.

Glenice Elaine Crowel, 84, Warsaw, passed away at 7:39 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, in her home surrounded by family.

Glenice was born on February 6, 1933, the daughter of the late Ray and Ardella (Senff) Jensen.

She is survived by four children: Steven (Carol) Crowel of Boynton Beach, Fla.; Kathy Knight of Warsaw; Brenda (Carl) Smith of Warsaw; and Jenny Dikeos of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Bill (Debbie) Jensen of Granger.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Tim Crowel, son-in-law, David Dudley and sister, Karen Boocher.

Glenice graduated from Bremen High School. She enjoyed cooking and collecting recipe books.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will take place at noon, Dec. 8 on the grounds of Bremen Cemetery.

Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to Great Lakes Hospice Care.

Jynnessa Liora Lovette

Jynnessa Liora Lovette, born an angel at 9:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 at Goshen Hospital in Goshen. Daughter of Jarrod Lee Lovette and Jennifer Louise (Kessler) Lovette, who survive in Warsaw.

She was not meant for this world, but was still loved dearly and will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Jynnessa is survived by her parents, and her four sisters: Jada, Josie, Jelena and Juliana, all at home in Warsaw.

Grandparents: Ron and Marcia Lovette (Blair, Wisc.); Jim and Susanne Kessler (Winona Lake); and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A private family graveside service will take place on Monday, Nov. 20 at Oakwood Cemetery’s Garden of Angels in Warsaw and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home,225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

Eleanor Elaine Bornmann

Eleanor Elaine (Creighton) Bornmann, known as Elaine, formerly of Warsaw, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Arvada, Colo. at the age of 85 on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017. She had been in failing health the past few months.

Elaine was born on June 16, 1932 in Atwood, the first born child of Kathryn M. (Koontz) Creighton and Charles O. Creighton.  She was eventually joined by siblings Roger, Ann, Gloria Jean, and Allen.

On Dec. 22, 1951, she was united in marriage in her parent’s home to Harrison “Harry” F. Bornmann III; he preceded her in death on March 29, 2015. They enjoyed over 63 years together and raised three children.

A graduate of Mentone High School and International Business College, Fort Wayne, Elaine enjoyed working with numbers and doing paperwork.  She and Harry enjoyed their time stationed in Germany during his Army days – and life on the Purdue University campus where Harry completed his degree.  While raising their family, they worked side-by-side on Hilltop Poultry Farm in the Palestine area.  The couple eventually relocated to Colorado, where she retired from Mervyn’s Department Store.  In addition to traveling in their motor home enjoying visits to family and friends, Elaine was an avid TV watcher and sports lover – rooting for Jeff Gordon during NASCAR races and cheering on the Denver Broncos.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Gail (husband Ron) Buhr, Warsaw; David (wife Jenny) Bornmann, Valparaiso; and Lisabeth (husband Dave) Huyck, Arvada, Colo. They were further blessed with eight grandchildren: Travis (wife Amanda) Shively, Etna Green; Trenton (wife Nicole) Shively, Warsaw; Ashley (husband Kyle) Zender, Coos Bay, Ore.; Leslie (husband Matthew) Willingham, Valparaiso; Lauren (husband Josh) Burgan, College Station, Texas; Leyalle (husband David) Harris, Copperas Cove, Texas; Erinn Donnelly, Wichita, Kan.; Lindsey (husband Chris) Mahns, Westville; and 15 great-grandchildren – with another on the way. Also surviving is her sister: Ann (husband Mel) Fuller, Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters-in-law:  Patricia Bornmann, Orefield, Penn.; Nancy Piel, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; and her brother-in-law: Richard Bornmann, Wheat Ridge, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sister Gloria Jean Creighton, and two brothers:  Roger and Allen Creighton.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.  Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Matthew Willingham.  A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.

Helen Irene Brown, 92, a longtime resident of Warsaw, passed away quietly on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

Helen was born on Oct. 13, 1925 in Duluth, Minnesota. She was the daughter of the late Claude James and Nelia Mae (Rehm) Tiffany.  She would graduate from Westville High School with the class of 1944 and attended Valparaiso University for two years.

On April 4, 1946, Helen was united in marriage to William Stephen Brown in LaPorte. Together they made their home in Warsaw. They would share 58 years together prior to his passing on Oct. 9, 2004.

Helen was a homemaker but had worked for Crystal Lake Egg Products for 15 years prior to her 1988 retirement.

She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans, blankets and other projects – some of which she gave as gifts.  She enjoyed many kinds of crafts and loved reading, appreciating many genres.  She had also enjoyed flower gardening.  A firm but loving person, her family was her focus; this included caring for seven young children while her husband worked nights. Helen had been involved in her neighborhood home ec club and was a lover of animals.

Those who survive include two sons: Mark (Sandi) Brown of Stillwater, MN and Matthew (Jean François Moisan) Brown of Puiseax En Bray, France; five daughters: Claudia Carson of Winona Lake, Elizabeth Brown of Lexington, KY, Sarah Flenar of Fort Recovery, OH, Kathryn Hughes of Warsaw and Margaret (Wayne) Kegley of Barbee Lake; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, William, Helen was preceded in passing by her sister, Grace Tollerud and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan St., Warsaw. A funeral service which celebrates Helen’s life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday with Reverend Michael Barnes, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Cook Chapel Cemetery, Warsaw.
