Billy “Joe” Havens, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1935 in Bonny, Ky. to Clayton and Daisie (Murphy) Havens.
On Jan. 30, 1993 he married Shirley (Nicodemus) Hapner.
She survives along with two daughters, Jolene (Roger) Yoder, Shipshewana and Rosalind (Ty) Marshall, Warsaw; step-children, April (Rod) Hostetler, New Paris, Sherri Lyn, and Randy Hapner, both of Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; a sister, Ruth (Phil) Hamilton, Elkhart; and a brother, Mike Havens, Milford.
Along with his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Thelma (Shaum) Havens, a sister, Betty Ebey and brothers, Jim, Don, Ralph and Junior Havens.
Joe served in the National Guard for eight years and retired from Johnson Controls after 46 years of employment. He participated in the Johnson Controls Retirement Club.
A certified welder, Joe modified and raced sprint cars for many years, traveling throughout the area. He also enjoyed all types of antique vehicles.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and Thursday, Jan. 23 beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service, also at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen.
