Willa Mae Slone, 70, of Warsaw, passed away at 7:55 a.m. on June 15, 2015, in her residence.
On Jan. 24, 1945, she was born in Martin, Ky., to Ollie and Mollie (Goodman) Robinson. She was united in marriage to Lon Clay Slone on July 6, 1963, in David, Ky., who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2007. They were married for 44 years.
Moving to Winona Lake in 1963, and then Warsaw in 1966, Willa Mae raised two daughters: Vickie McClone, Warsaw, and Michele “Shelly” Slone, Warsaw. She worked various jobs at Korth Furniture and Sun Metal before working at the Holiday Inn as a hostess in Ginger’s Gardens. Her bright smile would be welcoming. She retired to spend time with her grandchildren; they were the light of her life and her pride and joy.
Willa Mae is survived by two daughters: Vickie McClone, Warsaw; Shelly (William) Slone, Warsaw; five grandchildren: Riley, Wesley, Landon, Wyatt and Jacob; two sisters: Lisa Castle, Langley, Ky.; Dolly Robinson, Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; four brothers: Claude Robinson, Sidney; James Robinson, Ricky Robinson and Lonnie Robinson, all of Martin; her “sisters by choice”: Opal Bates, Prestonsburg, Ky.; Wanda Ramey, Warsaw; and Janice Hall, Warsaw.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Annabelle Slone, Hilene Hall, Dollie Belle Robinson and Sally Ray; four brothers: Everett Robinson, Ollie Robinson Jr., Harrison Robinson and Gary Blackburn Robinson.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, at the funeral chapel, with Ken Locke and Pastor Henry Arnett Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
