Barbara Jane Hicks

Barbara Jane Hicks, 74, North Manchester, passed away in her home at 11:45 a.m., Feb. 15, 2018.

Born in West Prestonsburg, Ky. on April 12, 1943, to James and Letha (Conley) Wright, she was one of twelve children.

For fifty-four years she was married to her best friend David D. Hicks. The two were married on Nov. 23, 1963. During their time together, she worked at Bryant Manufacturing for ten years and Eaton Control for fifteen years before health reasons forced her to retire in 2001. When she wasn’t working and taking care of their two children, she enjoyed working in the garden and canning in the fall what she had produced. Mrs. Hicks will always be remember by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

The loving memory of Barbara Jane Hicks will be forever remembered by her husband, David D. Hicks, North Manchester; one son, David Bert (Paula) Hicks, North Manchester; one daughter, Margaret Hicks, North Manchester; one brother, Edgar (Betty) Wright, Johnson County, Ky.; four sisters: Lori (William) Whitaker, Warsaw; Martha Ann (Jerry) Lester, North Manchester; Margaret Nan Roberts, North Manchester; and Susie Douglas (Robert) Lyons, Lima, Ohio; one granddaughter, Melissa Hicks, North Manchester. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Letha Wright; four brothers, Tom Wright, James Wright, Charlie Wright, Bill Wright and Louis “Bob” Wright; one sister, Florine Tippie.

A private service was held at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, Indiana. Pastor J.P. Freeman officiated.

Teresa (Burnworth) Baker

Teresa (Burnworth) Baker, 52, of Warsaw, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Feb. 16, 2018, in her residence. She was born June 26, 1965, in Wabash County. Her parents were Larry and Lorretta (Johnson) Burnworth.

She resided in Kosciusko County most of her life. She lived with her husband, Todd Baker, for nearly 20 years.
She worked at DePuy-Synthes as a quality inspector for about 20 years and more recently worked at Flexaust as a quality inspector. In addition, she loved her grandson and family, penguins, mystery television, chocolate, coffee and her dogs Larz and Sky.

She is survived by her husband, Todd Baker of Warsaw; daughter, Tasia (Steve) Sprovach of Ann Arbor, Mich.; son, Kyle (Courtney) Boggs of South Whitley; parents, Larry and Lorretta Burnworth of Shipshewana; brother, Doyle (Vicki) Burnworth of South Whitley and a grandson, Lucas Sprovach of Ann Arbor, Mich. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Kenny and Terry Burnworth.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. Chaplain Bob Jarboe will officiate the service. Interment will be in Washington Union Cemetery, Pierceton.

Sandra Irene Frush

Sandra Irene Frush, 78, Warsaw, passed away at 10:20 a.m., Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was born on June 1, 1939, in Warsaw, to Clarence James Salman and Irene (Rhoades) Salman. On June 1, 1958, in Pierceton, she married Earl Burkett Frush, who passed away Feb. 21, 2011, after sharing 52 years together.

Mrs. Frush was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where she was a graduate of Pierceton High School in 1957. She was very active in the community and was former clerk treasurer of the Town of Pierceton and former deputy clerk treasurer for the City of Warsaw. She was the director of the Kosciusko County Mental Health Association for 17 years and was very active in the Jail Ministry. She was a member of Pierceton United Methodist Church in Pierceton and will be dearly missed by her church family, family and friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son: Samuel (wife Katrina) Frush, Pierceton; daughter: Roberta “Robin” Frush, Warsaw; four grandchildren: Tiffany (husband Brendon) Fields, Warsaw; Bryan Frush, Pierceton; Austin Frush, Warsaw; and Meghan Frush, Pierceton. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren: Owen and Olivia; and her sister: Barbara Bignold, Washington state. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her grandson, Brandon Christian Frush.

A time for gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 23, at Redpath –Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. A celebration of Sandra’s life will follow at 6 p.m.,officiated by Pastor Holly White. Burial will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool, Indiana.

Irene Gaynelle Davis

Irene Gaynelle Davis, 99, Warsaw, passed away at 1:08 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2018, in Lake City Place, Warsaw.

She was born Oct. 6, 1918, to Ernest and Hazel (Ellis) Shively, in Burket. She was a 1937 graduate of Claypool High School.

On Dec. 23, 1939, Irene married Roy Max Davis in Indianapolis. They had three children during their 53-year marriage.

Mrs. Davis was a housewife during the years that her children were in school. The Davis’ then moved to Warsaw in 1976.  She was employed by the Warsaw Community Schools as a cook for ten years before her retirement.

She was a member of Claypool United Methodist Church and loved her church family. In earlier days, she was involved in the Happy Homemakers Club and Claypool Fireman’s Auxillary.

She enjoyed sewing and quilting with her daughter, Betty. She was an avid Warsaw Tigers basketball fan. She attended many Chicago Cubs baseball games with her family and friends. She was also a NASCAR fan. She loved to travel with her family and spent some winters in Florida with her sister, Jeannette.

Surviving family members include: daughter, Peggy (Michael) Longenecker, Warsaw; son-in-law, Terry Jefferies, Centerpoint; four grandchildren: Michele (Tim) Persinger, Clay City; Ty (Debbie) Jefferies, Terre Haute; Earl (Julie) Patrick, Jr., Castalian Springs, Tenn.; and Ryan (Charity) Longenecker, Chandler, Ariz.; nine great grandchildren: Tanner (Brandi) Persinger, Clay City; Sierra, Jaylin, and Chad Jefferies, Terre Haute; Adam Patrick, Castalian Springs, Tenn.; Emily (Adam) Davis, Bethpage, Tenn.; Erin Longenecker, Phoenix, Ariz.; Karrah Longenecker, Chandler, Ariz.; and Kersty Patrick, Indianapolis; five great-great grandchildren; one sister, Jeannette Sadler, Warsaw; one brother, Don Shively, Claypool; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max Davis; two daughters, Patricia Jefferies and Betty Patrick; one sister, Pauline Lowry; two brothers, Merle and Albert Shively; and one grandson, Gregory Patrick.

Friends may join the family for a time of visitation at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw on Wednesday Feb. 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Mike Settles of Claypool United Methodist Church, will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.

June “Carol” Nice, 78, New Paris Indiana and formerly of Warsaw, passed away at 6 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa. She was born June 15, 1939, in Plymouth, to Sylvester Ivan and Hazel Laura (Carlow) Aman.

She was a former resident of Lakeville, Gautier, Miss., Warsaw and New Paris. She was united in marriage to Dennis Nice in Plymouth in 1992. She served as a nurse for St. Joseph Hospital, Plymouth and Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw, retiring in 2011. She enjoyed cross-stitching and needlework and was a gardener and loved working outdoors and traveling.

Mrs. Nice is survived by daughters: Judith Elaine (spouse Rodney) Hygema of Lakeville; and Meschelle Lee (spouse Scott) Davidhizar of New Paris; her grandchildren include: Tracy Gnivecki, Matthew Hygema, Michael Davidhizar, Caleb Davidhizar and Catherine Davidhizar; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Lorraine Kay Oyler in 1981 and her husband Dennis L. “Denny” Nice in 2012.

Her funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 23, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Reverend Brian C. White and Reverend David Harper will officiate. Interment will be in Etna Green Cemetery, Etna Green.

Charles F. ‘Sonny’ Green

Charles F. “Sonny” Green, 86, Warsaw, passed away at 6:35 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, in his residence. He was born on April 25, 1931, in Newcastle Township, Fulton County, to Charles E. and Fredia (Yeazel) Green.

On June 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Jennie (Hall) Green in Roann. He proudly served our country in The United States Air Force from Feb. 6, 1951, to Dec. 11, 1953. His company was the third Motor Transport Squad, which he served with in England. He was a member of the Pleasant View Bible Church and also the American Legion Post #49. In addition, he was an avid sports fan; he was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed IU Basketball as well. He was very interested in micro mini car shows and was the proud owner of one. He loved to travel especially to Florida and Alaska. More than anything he loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Green, Warsaw; sons: Andy (companion Angie) Green, Warsaw; Paul (spouse Mary) Green, Warsaw; Mark (spouse Sandra) Green, Warsaw; daughter: Julia (spouse Brad) Bevington, Westfield; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Kale.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.  A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.  Pastor Mike Hontz will officiate the Funeral Service. Interment will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Norman E. Brown

Norman E. Brown, 89, Warsaw, passed away at 4:02 p.m., Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Warsaw to Roscoe and Nellie (Ellis) Brown.

A lifetime area resident he was formerly employed by the Oasis Club, the Elks Club and Holiday Inn all of Warsaw as bartender. Additionally, he had ten years of service with Dalton Foundry as a Pattern Maker and Tool Room Technician, where he retired. He was a life member of the Warsaw Moose Club. He married Wanda Babcock on Nov. 4, 1949, in Warsaw; she preceded him Feb. 25, 2009.

He is survived by his sons: Michael (and spouse Cheryl) Brown, Timothy (and spouse Cynthia) Brown, both of Warsaw; Patrick (and spouse Jolinda) Brown, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Furthermore, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Whitaker, one grandson and one great grandson.

Visitation is scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m., in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with Don Plank officiating.

Ronald Meade Sr., 68, Silver Lake, passed away at 3:21 p.m., Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He was born Sept. 22, 1949, to Harris and Chloie (Petri) Meade.

He was united in marriage on Aug. 1, 1970, to Linda Ann Hoffman. She preceded him in 2007. He retired from Dalton Foundry. Ronald enjoyed fishing, going to auctions every weekend but most of all his grandchildren were his prize and joy.

He is survived by his son, Ronald Meade Jr, and his companion Amanda Gidley, Silver Lake; a daughter, Deborah (Adolfo) Romero, Pierceton; several grandchildren; one great grandson; two brothers, Phillip Meade, Pierceton; and Terry (Rebecka) Head, Warsaw; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda Ann Meade, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, at the funeral chapel with Pastor Glenn Hall officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Edward R. Likens

Edward R. “Ed” Likens, 84, Warsaw, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, in his residence.

He was born June 1, 1933, in North Webster, to Cyril “Bus” and Myrtle (Beezley) Likens.

Mr. Likens was united in marriage to Patricia Johnson in Bluefield W.Va. on Aug. 15, 1959. He was a North Webster High School graduate and graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington with a business degree. In addition, he was a 1987 graduate from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisc. He faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served as Signalman (Morse Code Operator) with the 511th ACW Squadron both stateside and abroad from 1952 to 1956. Ed was the co-owner of Likens Tax Service and Service Liquors. 

Most notably he was known as a banking professional serving the community with Counting House Bank, Pierceton State Bank and First National Bank from 1956 to 1997. His social affiliations include the Warsaw Masonic Lodge, Fort Wayne Valley Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, Kosciusko County Shrine Club, American Legion Post #49, VFW Post #1126, Warsaw Elks and Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church. Also, he previously served as a Board Member of CASA and the Homer Shoop Foundation.

He was an avid coin collector and golfer.  He once scored a hole-in-one at Rozella Ford Golf Course. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Fort Myers beach, Fla. He was “elected” Honorary Mayor of Pierceton in 1988 and was inducted into the Warsaw Bowling Association Hall of Fame, Jan. 29, 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Likens; son, William “Willie” (spouse Jolynn) Likens; daughters: Christy Singrey and Cathy (companion Mike Howell) Carter, all of Warsaw; a brother, Robert (spouse Dixie) Likens, North Webster; and a sister, Frances Bowser, North Webster; sister-in-law’s: Sharon Smyth, Daytona, Fla.; and Sonja (spouse Chris) Reid, Conroe, Texas. Grandchildren include: Casey Carter and Cade Carter, Warsaw, Kelli Singrey, Stockholm, Sweden; and Connor Singrey, Manhattan, N.Y. Furthermore, several nieces and nephews survive.

Visitation hours are scheduled from 4:-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Warsaw. His funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the Church with Father Brian Grantz officiating. Entombment will be in the St. Anne’s Columbarium.

Dr. Talitha Day Fair

Talitha Day Fair, Ph.D., went on to be with Jesus from her Warsaw home at 5 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018. She had been struggling with health issues for several years.

Dr. Fair was born in Indianapolis to Joy (Day) and Ellis Fair. She spent a few childhood years with them in other states; Dr. Fair considered herself to be a Warsaw native, however. She was a 1964 graduate of Warsaw High School and lived in Warsaw intermittently while she attended Asbury College (graduating in 1968) and St. Francis College (graduating in 1972). She went on to earn a doctorate in psychology at Andrews University in 1987. In 1977, she and concerned friends founded Selah Christian Center, Inc., an alternative counseling and educational program which served children and adults in need of individualized assistance. She continued to work as a psychologist and director of Selah until 2013.

Talitha Fair was an active member of several Warsaw-area churches during her life and was involved at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by uncles, aunts, cousins, many friends and thousands whom she helped throughout her career.

Dr. Fair will be laid to rest in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery during a graveside service on Friday, Feb. 23; the 2 p.m. service will be officiated by Pastor Dan Litfin. Her life will be further celebrated at Titus Funeral Home at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 3.

Elizabeth Lorraine Burkholder

Elizabeth Lorraine Burkholder, 70, Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 at her home. She was born to Tobe and Lizzie Winger Troyer on Dec. 29, 1947, in La Grange. She graduated from Honeyville Primary School.

Ms. Burkholder worked as a housekeeper. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and sewing.

She is survived by her four children: Lynn R. Burkholder of Warsaw; Kevin R. (Kresta) Burkholder of Mentone; Cheri Baugher of Syracuse; and Michelle Burkholder of Warsaw; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters: Katie Miller of Goshen; Edna Miller of Middlebury; Fannie Bontrager of Middlebury; Iva Miller of Shipshewana; Verna Miller of Topeka; Dorothy Yoder of Topeka; and one brother, Toby Troyer of Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her sisters: Lydia Hassig, Edith Schwartz, Mary Bontrager; and two brothers: William Troyer and Mose Troyer.

A funeral service in honor of Lorraine will be held at 10 a.m., at Mishler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 461 W 900 N, Milford, on Saturday, Feb. 24. Burial will follow in Stony Point Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, at Mishler Funeral Home in Milford.

Helen Holderman

Helen Holderman, 87, passed away at 3:46 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 in Lake City Place, Warsaw.

Mrs. Holderman spent most of her adult life in Koscisuko County and was a longtime resident of Chapman Lake.

She was born to Ralph Thomas and Fladia (Eaton) Thomas on May 19, 1930, in Billings, Mont. Her family eventually moved to the area and she would graduate from Mentone High School.

On April 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Max Eugene Holderman in Warsaw. They would share 61 happy years together prior to his passing on Dec. 30, 2011.

She enjoyed crafting and crocheting, especially making afghans. She also loved growing flowers and enjoyed attending Church services at Lake City Place, where she lived  She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be especially remembered for her cooking and for her kind and friendly disposition.

Those who survive include daughter: Pat (Les) Kleinrichert of Howard, Ohio; two grandchildren: Gail (Jason) Smiley of Orient, Ohio; Kevin (Christine) Kleinrichert of Grand Rapids, Ohio; two great grandchildren: Alyssa and Joshua Kleinrichert, both of Grand Rapids, Ohio; brother, Loyd (Carol Lee) Thomas, Lake Mary, Fla.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Marvel of Mesa, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Howard Hawkins of Clinton, Tenn.; and brother-in-law, Stanley (Aleta) Holderman of Warsaw.

In addition to her husband, Max, those preceding her in passing are two brothers: Floyd Thomas, and Everett (Arlene) Thomas, and sisters-in-law, Imogene Hawkins, Maxine (Roy) Haney and Betty Clingenpeel.

Friends may join the family for a time of visitation at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw from 10 a.m.-noon, Monday, Feb. 26A funeral service officiated by Pastor Bob Jarboe will begin at noon. Burial will follow in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.

James E. “Turkey” Bailey, 78, Warsaw, passed away at 3:45 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, in Mason Health Care and Rehabilitation, Warsaw. 

He was born on April 27, 1939, in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Grover and Maudie (Hale) Bailey.

He was a resident of Warsaw and Pierceton for the past 15 years. He was united in marriage to Elaine Hesner, who preceded him March 20, 2000. He was a self-employed carpenter and was a member of God’s Highway to Heaven Church, Warsaw.

He is survived by his son, Jimmy Bailey of Florida; siste, Ruby Stephens of Pierceton; granddaughters: Elaina and Adaline; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Lawrence, Jack, Lowell, Ralph, Sam Henry, Russell, and Billy Ray.

Visitation is scheduled from 2-6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, in God’s Highway to Heaven Church, Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 26, in God’s Highway to Heaven Church, Warsaw. Reverend Bob Brown will officiate the Funeral Service. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
