Michael Freeman Hanna

On Sept. 9, after battling cancer for several months, Michael Freeman Hanna, oldest son of Virgina (Dimon) and Ardel Hanna, passed away while watching the Notre Dame football game. Known to most as “Mike,” he was 67 at the time of his passing.

Mike was a 1968 graduate of Warsaw Community High School who worked at Zimmer for 46 years, retiring in June 2015. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, playing Tiger Woods Golf with his grandsons, hanging out in the garage with his brother, John, listening to music from Woodstock, and baking fudge brownie pies.

Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sheryl Hanna of Warsaw; his mother, Virginia Hanna of Warsaw; brother, John (Carolyn) Hanna of Leesburg; daughter, Michelle (Scott) Blum of Ft. Wayne and daughter, Heather Hanna. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Ryesha Jackson of Indianapolis, Tanner Blum of Warsaw, Rashaan Jackson of South Bend, Connor Blum of Ft. Wayne, Asher Blum of Ft. Wayne, and Michael Ramirez of Warsaw.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Ardel Hanna; brother, Mark Hanna and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Friends may join family for a time of sharing and to celebrate the life of Mike Hanna on Saturday, Sept, 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. Burial will take place later in Oakwood Cemetery.

Vere Allen Shenefield

Vere Allen Shenefield, 87, Warsaw passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2017, at his residence. On Jan. 20, 1930 he was born in Bremen to Warren Allen and M. Marie (Laudeman) Shenefield.

On Dec. 25, 1962 in Warsaw he was united in marriage to Ruth Carolyn Robinson, who survives.

He worked for Studebaker Automotive from 1951 to 1953 and then at DePuy in sales and management for 45 years retiring in 1996. He attended church at First United Methodist in Warsaw. He was a member of the Gideon’s International, Pierceton Lions Club and the Bremen Masonic Lodge as a 32nd Degree Mason in Scottish Rite.

He proudly served in the United States Army as a SP3(T) from 1955 – 1961 Headquarters – Aus/AGC.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; daughter: Gay Ann Mullins of Muncie; son; Todd Allen (and spouse Christa) Shenefield of Warsaw; along with grandchildren: Skyler (and spouse Michelle) Shenefield of Warsaw; Blayne Shenefield of Warsaw; and Robinson Mullins of Muncie. He is also survived by three great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents and a brother; Lyle Shenefield.

Visitation will be held at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15, in the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw with Pastor Mark Need officiating. Interment will follow the funeral at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army of Warsaw, 501 E. Arthur Street. Warsaw, IN 46580.

Helen Joan Kindle

Helen Joan Kindle, 88, Burnett County, Wisc., passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 9, 2017.

Helen was born in Warsaw, on Feb. 17, 1929, daughter of the late Howard and Miriam (Yeager) Swoverland. She attended public schools there, and was a 1946 graduate of Warsaw High School. She furthered her education at Manchester College from 1946 to 1947, and International Business College, graduating in 1949 with an Executive Secretary Certification and Degree.

On Dec. 22, 1950, Helen was united in marriage to Paul Eugene Kindle in Warsaw.

Helen worked for the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce from 1949 to 1956, and was the Secretary from 1951 to 1956. She began her career with the city of Warsaw in 1965 as an assistant of the city Clerk-Treasurer. In 1968, she became the city Clerk-Treasurer, a post she held for over twelve years.

Helen was a member of the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers, serving as League President from 1971 to 1972. She was Chairperson of the Clerk-Treasurer Forum at the Annual Conference in 1971, and Chairperson of the Education Training Committee in 1972.  Helen was also a member of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, and served on the Resolution Committee.

Helen was active in the community serving as Treasurer of the Warsaw and Wayne Township Library from 1968 to 1971, and was a member of the Advisory Board on the Warsaw Salvation Army in 1973.  She was a member of the Agnes Pruyn Chapman chapter of the U.S. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and was its Treasurer from 1973 to 1976.  Helen was also member and past Regent of the Order of the Eastern Star of Indiana, Warsaw chapter 88.

She was named in “Who’s Who of American Women” each year from 1975 through 1980.  She was also named in “Who’s Who In the Midwest” in 1978 and 1979, and in “Who’s Who In Government, Third Edition.”

Helen is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, Jeff (Wendy) Kindle and Ken (Kelly) Kindle; grandchildren: Brent (Rebekah) Kindle, Acacia (Darrell) Vetor, Jill Kindle, Jaime (Dane) Bause, Ashley (Mike) Finney, and Cody Kindle, as well as Brianna, Karly, and Wes; and nine great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother, Jon (Linda) Swoverland.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, there will not be any formal services.

Arrangements are entrusted with Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Webster, WI.

Dave B. Fulkerson — UPDATED

Dave B. Fulkerson, 78, Warsaw, passed away at 9:41 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 in Warsaw.

He was born Sept. 25, 1938 in Owensboro, Ky. to Walter Douglas Fulkerson and Mary Helen Walden.

He was a Warsaw resident since 1982 and is formerly of Columbia City and Fort Wayne. He was united in marriage in Wabash on June 9, 1972 to Eugenia Nixon until 1999.

He served as Athletic Director for Warsaw Community Schools from 1982 to 2009. In his tenure, as Athletic Director the Warsaw Schools built a strong athletic program attaining numerous awards and State Championships in various sports. Furthermore, he was an active participant and supporter of all Warsaw school students taking a sincere interest in their personal and educational development.

He was a 1960 graduate of the University of Evansville with a B.S. degree in Secondary Education. Post-graduation he continued as a basketball recruiter for Evansville and was member when the school won the NCAA Division Three Championship. Also, he graduated from St. Francis College with a Master’s degree in School Administration in 1981.He was a Physical Education Teacher for the Windsor, IL schools, White’s Institute, Wabash Schools, St. Francis College, and Columbia City. During his career, he coached Basketball, Baseball, served as Pool Director and Athletic Director.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Daniel (spouse Amy) Fulkerson, MD of Zionsville; daughter, Jodi (spouse Ace) Ramirez of Zionsville; grandchildren: Emma, Daniel, Noah, Luke and Leah Fulkerson, Alex Fulkerson and David Goad; and a sister, Connie (Fulkerson) Morris of Shorewood.

He was preceded by his foster parents, John and Maxine Peebles; brothers: Ronnie Peebles and John Roach; and a sister, Shirley Roach.

Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 17 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services followed in the Performing Arts Center of Warsaw Community High School.

A celebration of life for David will be held from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 24 at Creighton’s Crazy Eggs Café, Old Road 30 West, Warsaw, IN 46580

Thomas Calvin Ice

Thomas Calvin Ice, Warsaw, 72, went home to be with the Lord 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017.  He passed away at his residence surrounded by family.

He was born on Oct. 15, 1944 in Fort Wayne to Faye Etta (Allen) Ice and Oral Festus Ice. On Oct. 15, 1982 he was married to Connie J. (Fisher) Ice, who survives.

Thomas has been a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 45 years and was a member of Warsaw Worship Center. He was a 1963 Graduate of Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne, attended Indiana University and Fort Wayne Business College and received his Associates Degree in 1965. Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1973. He worked as a real estate agent and had owned a Christian book store.  For the majority of his life he was a school bus driver for special needs children in Warsaw.  He loved fishing and cooking for his family and he will be dearly missed by all.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Connie J. Ice, Warsaw; two sons:  Thomas C. (Tonya) Ice, Jr., Fort Wayne; David (Mariseny) Clements, Avon; two daughters: Tiffany (Chris) Shepherd, Citrus Heights, Calif.; and Kristy (Troy) Newton, Warsaw. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Riley Newton; Mary Jo, Grace, Abigail, Cole and Kirsten Shepherd; and Taylor Girdham; niece: Kathy Tyndall Rawlings, Fredricks, Md.; and his sister: Carol Ice Tyndall. Fort Wayne.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter Leah Aker.

No visitation is planned, a private family memorial will take place.  Arrangements were entrusted with Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Tyler Lee Goodpaster II

Tyler Lee Goodpaster, II, newborn son of Hanna Elizabeth Jackson and Tyler L. Goodpaster, was born an angel and passed away at 11:11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Khevaya Goodpaster, Warsaw; paternal grandmother: Heather Raypole, Warsaw; paternal grandparents: Lukuita Jackson and Victor Rodriguez, both of Wilmington, Ohio; paternal great grandfather: Richard Goodpaster, Georgetown, Ohio; and maternal great grandmother: Rita Dunkin, Georgia. Also surviving is Uncle Joshua Jones, Warsaw, Indiana.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw and officiated by Rev. Dr. Erik Ohman.  There will be visitation an hour prior to the graveside service at the funeral home.

Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home of Warsaw.

Linda June Underhill-Miller

We celebrate the victorious life of Linda June Underhill-Miller who passed away on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017. She was born on Sept. 11, 1945, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Russellville, Arkansas to Oliver and Minnie Underhill.

She was a dynamic classical pianist and accomplished organist. In 1988, she was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer and was sent home to die under hospice care. She received her healing miracle and went on to live for 28 more years. With her second chance, she wrote several books about healing that have been distributed across the world. With Liberty Temple Ministries, she appeared on LeSEA Broadcasting Network television program sharing her testimony and held numerous meetings across the country.

She was preceded in going home by her loving parents, Oliver and Minnie Underhill, and Henry and Ethel Underhill; step-son, Tim Miller; and a grandson, Jake Williams.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Rev. John Miller of Russellville, Ark.; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissia and Chris Williams of Russellville; a son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Lavina Miller of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Polly Miller of Warsaw; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Bonnie Underhill of Russellville, and Jay and Betty Underhill of Russellville; step-daughter, Tammy and Tony Shaw of Jacksonville, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Lin, John, Harrison, Mikayla, Luke, Meleana, Tyler, Sydni, and Lilly; three step-grandchildren, Kimberly, Tony Jr., and Kristen; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, at Ball Hill Cemetery in Russellville with the Rev. Keith Underhill officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m., on Thursday evening at Shinn Funeral Home, 800 W. Main Street, Russellville.

Flowers are welcome, but memorials may be made to Russellville Christian Center, 305 Lake Front Drive, Russellville, AR 72802.

Betty J. Milling, 91, Warsaw, passed away at 11:55 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born May 30, 1926 in Warsaw to Ethal R. and M. Helen (Ooley) Evans.

She was a former resident of Hudson, Fla. since 2002. She was married to Lynn F. Milling. In addition, since 1978 she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Covina, Calif. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Bridge player.

She is survived by three grandchildren; James E. Fenimore of Elkhart, Theresa M. Daggett of Warsaw, David Lancaster of South Bend; two grandchildren; Wade (Spouse Yvette) Smith of Fort Wayne, Sonya L. (Spouse Daniel) Riffle of Warsaw, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn F. Milling and her son, James S. Fenimore.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels are entrusted with the arrangements. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery and will be private.

Larry Lee Montel

Larry Lee Montel, 82, Warsaw, passed away at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, in his residence.

He was born June 28, 1935 in Kosciusko County to Deverl and Ruby (Ayres) Montel. He graduated from Laketon High School in 1954. On July 10, 1964 he married Laverne Garber. She passed away on Aug. 17, 2008.

He was a member of Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, Liberty Mills, Sidney Lion’s Club for 30 years, Scottish Rite, a Mason, Echoes of the Past member for many years.  He loved farming and his tractors.  He didn’t know a stranger.

He is survived by his son, Brent Montel, Claypool; daughter, Rhonda (Brian) Wood, Claypool; brothers, Roger Montel, Mentone; and Robert Montel, Warsaw; sisters, Carolyn Eberly, South Whitley; and Phyllis Price, Hobart; grandchildren, Kyle Wood, Sacramento, Calif.; Kory Wood, Muncie and Joshua Montel.

Family and friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24 at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25 at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, 71 N. 3rd Street, Liberty Mills, IN.  Pastor Erin Huiras will officiate.  Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley.

Torie Ann Stage Wilkins

Torie Ann Stage Wilkins, 54, died on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017. Her passing was in her Warsaw home where she was surrounded by family and friends.

Torie was born to Benny and Mary (Downham) Stage on Feb. 16, 1963 in Elwood. Although she spent several years there, her family would move to Warsaw in the late 60s. She spent most of her lifetime in the Warsaw area and was a 1981 graduate of Warsaw Community High School.

Torie was married to Jerry Wilkins on Sept. 7, 1979. Together they had two sons and one daughter. Jerry and Torie stayed close friends, even after they were legally divorced.

Torie’s two main loves were her family and her flower gardens. She enjoyed being outdoors. She also enjoyed rock music of the 60s and 70s and was known as a good cook.

Although she touched many lives, a short list of those who survive Torie includes her son, Jerry (Danielle) Wilkins of Ligonier; daughter, Sandra (Joey) Hall of South Whitley and son, Nickolas (Melissa) Wilkins of Warsaw. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Noah Wilkins, Abbagail Hall, Tanner Wilkins, Emma Wilkins, Adina Guzman, Bryson “Kip” Wilkins and Landen Wilkins; mother, Mary Stage of Warsaw; brother Benny (Theresa) Stage, Jr. of Claypool and by her ex-husband and good friend, Jerry Wilkins of Kansas City, Missouri.

Torie was preceded in death by her father, Benny Stage, Sr. and an infant sister, Patty Diane Stage.

Interment will be in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery. A graveside service, conducted by Pastor Mike Settles of Claypool United Methodist Church, will be held on Monday, Sept. 25. Those wishing to join the family may meet at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw, at 2 p.m.

Donald Eugene Frush — UPDATED

Donald Eugene Frush, 94, Granger, passed away at 10:36 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, in Golden Living Center-Fountainview Nursing Home, Mishawaka. Donald passed away due to dementia.

He was born Feb. 4, 1923 in Warsaw to William Clifford and Marguerite (Hughes) Frush, Sr. A 1942 graduate of Warsaw High School, he entered the United States Army as a Private First Class in the Signal Corps near the end of WWII and was stationed at the Pentagon in the Photography Division. After the War he held a variety of jobs including driving a cab, working for a Tool and Die Maker and owning a TV Repair Shop. He used his skills fixing things by becoming an early “house flipper” by buying old, abandoned homes, cleaning them out, making repairs and reselling for a profit. Later, he became one of the owners of Granger Machine Tool.

Donald is survived by a brother, Roger Dale Frush, nieces Rebecca (Charles) Talkie and Karel (Denny) Mulcahy, nephew William “Jerry” (Julia) Frush, seven great-nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, infant brother John Robert, sister Doris and husband Lyle Aygarn and brother William Clifford “Bill” Frush, Jr. and his wife Lea. In addition, Donald was predeceased by his wife Mary Jane (Bright) Frush and longtime companion Mona Bennett.

The family wishes to thank the Staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Golden Living Center-Fountainview and Ascerta Care Hospice for the competent and compassionate care.

A graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw on Friday September 29, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Bob Jarboe officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors.

The family is requesting that memorial contribution be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 9601l, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

Betty B. Jack

Betty B. Jack, 88, passed away on Sept. 24, 2017 at the Warsaw Meadows Care Center.

She was born on March 10, 1929 in Xenia, Ohio to Cecil and Cora (Saunders) Baxter.  On July 23, 1949 she married James Jack who preceded her on Dec. 30, 1975.  She was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Eagles Lodge, all of Syracuse.

Betty is survived by her four children: Dianna (Robert) Bauwens of Elkhart, James (Pamela) Jack of Leesburg, Cheryl (Duane) Stump of Nappanee, and Deborah (Daniel) Armbruster of Syracuse. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister Marguerite Wolf of Xenia, Ohio as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her husband, daughter Linda, and brother Richard Baxter.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Eastlund Funeral Home with pastor Pat Parks officiating.  Calling will be two hours prior from noon until 2. There will also be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2 at the McColaugh Funeral Home in Xenia, Ohio. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the McColaugh Funeral Home with burial following at the Woodland Cemetery on Xenia, Ohio.
