Reverend Paul Dean Tinkel, 83, Warsaw, died at 8:50 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, in his residence.

On Feb. 26, 1933, he was born in Wabash to Arthur Henry and Lylia Mae (Starbuck) Tinkel. He was united in marriage to Judy Elizabeth Foy Feb. 27, 1953 in Beckley, W. Va. She survives.

Paul was a graduate of Akron High School, Class of 1951 and received his associate degree from Great Commission Bible School, Anderson. He then received his Bachelor’s Degree from Ashland College University and Seminary, Ashland, Ohio. 

He held many pastorates including, Gatewood Brethren Church, Fayetteville, W. Va.; Brush Valley Brethren Church, Adrian, Penn.; Roanoke First Brethren Church, Roanoke; Warsaw First Brethren Church, Warsaw; New Paris First Brethren Church, New Paris; Milford First Brethren Church, Milford; West Eel River Church of the Brethren; and he started the Meadow Crest Brethren Church, Fort Wayne. These churches include six building programs and he served on several District and Denominational Boards and Committees.

He was a member of The Oak Hill First Brethren Church and The West Eel River Church of the Brethren. Paul served in the Civil Air Patrol, United States Air Force Auxiliary for twenty eight years with the rank of LT. Colonel and Chaplain; Indiana State Wing Chaplain for eight years of which he was also a CAP/USAF Pilot for many years.  He was a member of National Brethren Ministerial Association, Ashland, Ohio and Ordained Pastor in the Brethren Church for forty two years, retiring in 1995. 

Paul was also a member of Kiwanis Club International of which he was a former President and a member of the local Warsaw club; former Civil Defense Area Safety Director and Volunteer Fireman, in Oak Hill, W. Va. and former Co-President of the Parent-Teachers Association.

Paul is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Judy Elizabeth Tinkel, Warsaw; three daughters: Paula Elizabeth (and spouse Dan) Gray, Peru; Cheryl Lynn Kessler, Fort Wayne; and Deanna Kay Ladd (and spouse John) Richards, Warsaw; seven grandchildren: Nathan and wife Stephanie, Brandon and wife Maryann and Colin and wife Megan Gray, Eric Kessler and Julie and husband Austin Kessler and Jason and wife Jaime Ladd and Jennifer Ladd and her fiancé Chad Dahms; thirteen great grandchildren, and one brother, James Lee Tinkel. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Arthur Junior Tinkel.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Pastor Mark Ray officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Visitation hours will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 in the funeral chapel.

Reverend Paul Dean Tinkel, 83, Warsaw, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:50 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, in his residence, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Wendell G. “Tony” LaFevor, 78, Warsaw, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at his home.

He was born Dec. 13, 1937 in Fort Wayne to Louis and Laura (Fritz) LaFevor.

He graduated from Arcola High School and was a lifetime Allen & Kosciusko County area resident. He was formerly employed at the Tokheim Corporation in Fort Wayne, American Hoist Company in Fort Wayne, and Walmart in Columbia City. 

He was a member of the Shepherd by the Lakes Lutheran Church in Syracuse, IN, a car enthusiast, and an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his sister, Wauneta (Bill) Perse, Fort Wayne; his brother, Ken (Sharon) LaFever, Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents and brother, Roger LaFevor.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd. 15, Warsaw. No public visitation or services will be held at this time. Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 & CR 500N, North Webster is in charge of arrangements.

Roy L. Jeffers

Roy L. Jeffers, 89, of Mentone, Indiana passed at 12:15 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at Mason Health Care of Warsaw.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1927 in Yale, Illinois to Gail and Lela (Gifford) Jeffers.

He owned and operated J&J Sales in Mentone for 42 years. He closed the Mentone store and retired in 2010.

He was a graduate of Knox High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He had been a member of the Mentone Lions Club for many years. He enjoyed playing solitaire, bowling, and watching over Mentone from his chair in front of the store. He was a Chicago Cub fan for over 80 years.

Surviving are daughters Juanita Saner, Warsaw; Mary (Kevin) Leach, Larwill; and sons Gary (Mary Katherine) Jeffers, Rockville, Md.; Roger (Bonnie)  Jeffers, Bourbon. Also surviving are sister Betty Louise Nichols, Pierceton, 11 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Wiard and brother Bruce Jeffers.

Services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, Nov. 14, at King Memorial Home 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, by Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, with a burial at Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, Indiana
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.

Charles F. Ramseier

Charles F. Ramseier, 87, Warsaw, died at 6:04 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born July 16, 1929 in Allen County to Frederick & Faye (Shimp) Ramseier. On November 24, 1955 he married Graceanna Royer.

He was a purchasing agent with Wabash County Hospital for 12 years. He retired from C.S. Printing, Wabash, after 15 years.  He was member of Manchester Bible Church, North Manchester, and enjoyed woodworking and music and played the harmonica.

He is survived by his wife Graceanna Ramseier, Warsaw; sons, James (Brenda) Garber, Berne, and Jeffrey (Brenda) Ramseier, North Manchester; daughter, Annette (Tom) Stensel, Warsaw; sisters, Esther Oser, Fort Wayne, and Lois Wigner, Fort Wayne; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

One brother, Robert Ramseier, is deceased.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester.

Services will be Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  Chaplain John Shrock will officiate.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Betty L. Denny, 90, Warsaw, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in her residence.

On Nov. 28, 1925, she was born in Nappanee to Roy and Opal (Richmond) Longfield. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Betty worked as an office production clerk for R.R. Donnelley and Son, Inc., retiring in October of 1990.

Betty is survived by three daughters: Karen (John) Schultz, Warsaw; Roberta (Bruce) Bibler, Warsaw; and Diana Egolf, Warsaw. Adopted daughter, Michelle Valentine, Warsaw. Furthermore, three sisters: Shirley (Lewis) Esenwein, Brownsburg; Carolyn (Kent) Koontz, Bremen; and Judith (Fred) Helgeson, Elkhart. In addition, ten grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren survive.

She was preceded by daughter, Sandy Feldman; daughter and son-in-law Pat and Dan Gallmeier; grandsons: Tony Feldman and Ben Bibler; great granddaughter Lexus Gallmeier; one brother and one sister.

A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with Pastor Howard Immel officiating.

She is survived by her mother, Katie Stamper, Warsaw; her father, Jason Collins, Palestine Lake; her sister, Arabella Stamper, Warsaw; maternal grandparents: Peggy Stamper, Atwood; and Mark and Beverly Stamper, Elkhart; paternal grandparents: Rita and Terry Collins, Palestine; and maternal great grandparents: Susie Stamper, Warsaw; and Carolyn Railsback, Silver Lake.

Visitation hours will be from 4–7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.16, 2016 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

Connie L. Hobbs, 51, Warsaw, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

She was born Jan. 29, 1965 in Warsaw to Jay and Mollie (Hall) Shepherd, she married Kevin Hobbs on April 15, 1989; he survives.

Connie is survived by her husband Kevin of Claypool; four children: Ashley Hobbs of Claypool; Kyle Hobbs of Claypool; Amber Hobbs (Noe Ybarra) of Warsaw; and Kaleb Hobbs also of Claypool. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Payton, Danny Mae, Carson, Adrieona, Noe Jr., Kabriel, Amber Noel, Vetta, Lettie, Kaydence and several brothers and sisters.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

No services are planned at this time.

Lloyd Robert Landis

Lloyd Robert Landis, Warsaw, passed away at his residence at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 at the age of 90.

He was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 60 years. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medic in Japan. Most of his life he farmed and raised sheep. Lloyd also worked at Playtime Products, Kinder Manufacturing, Uniroyal and Zimmer Inc. He was a mold press operator until his retirement from Zimmer Inc. of Warsaw in 1995.

He was born Nov. 28, 1925 in North Manchester to Lynn Leslie Landis and Rhea M. (Rager) Landis. He was married July 2, 1948 to Helen Irene (Hartzler) Landis, who survives in Warsaw.

Along with his wife he will be lovingly remembered by his son: Larry (wife Teresa) Landis, Warsaw; daughter: Connie Morgan, Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren: Andrea Landis and Dean Landis, both of Warsaw; Laura (husband Cole) Foltz, Etna Green; brother: LeRoy (wife Rose Anna) Landis, North Manchester; and his sister: Lauretta Moore, Macy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Loreen Hoover.

No visitation will be held.  A private family graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw and officiated by Pastor Greg Hyatt.  Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

Louise Peffley, 94, Warsaw, passed away at 5:38 a.m., Nov. 21, 2016 in Grace Village.

She was born Dec. 10, 1921 in Culver to Delbert and Bessie (Guise) Wilson.

She was a graduate of Culver High School and worked as an Inspector at Zimmer and was also a Seamstress.

She is survived by her daughters: Linda Bruner of Warsaw; Sandra (and spouse Jack) Leonard, Pendleton, S.C.; a son, George (and spouse Nancy) Barkman, Spartansburg, S.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lesa (and spouse Clifford) Newsome, Chad (and spouse Maggie) Bruner, Craig (and spouse Alisha) Irwin, Angie (and spouse Bill) McLean, Rex Long, Sheri (and spouse Brian) Stott, Ranai (and spouse Tim) Kennedy and Beth Murphy; 15 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and five step children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Barkman; David Peffley; and her daughter Judy Long; along with eight siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw with Pastor Michael Hontz officiating. Interment will follow at Harrison Center Cemetery.

Memorials to the American Red Cross of Kosciusko County, 320 N. Buffalo Street, Warsaw, Indiana, 46580.

Olive Mae Van Dyke, 89, Warsaw, passed away at 6:38 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, in Grace Village Healthcare Center, Winona Lake.

On May 2, 1927, Olive was born in Burket to Orval David and Martha Mabel (Miller) Slife. She was raised as a farm girl.

She graduated from Burket High School in 1945. She was in the last class to graduate from Burket High School.  She worked for Dr. Lee Dentistry, L.M. Berry and Company, Yellow Pages and Gatke Corporation.  Olive then worked for Ramsey News for forty years.

Olive is survived by her son, David Gene Van Dyke, Warsaw; her companion, Marcus Kosins, Warsaw; her niece Linda Tomaselli, Florida; and two nephews, Robert Haupert, New Mexico; and Richard Haupert, California. 

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lena Belle Haupert.

Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, Palestine at a later date.

Dorothy Lorraine Elliott — UPDATED

elliott-dorothyDorothy Lorraine Elliott, having recently celebrated her 80th birthday, passed away in the early hours of Monday, Nov. 21, 2016.

Dorothy was born Nov. 17, 1936 to parents, Ernest and Mable (Redding) Cremeens. She was born in Aladdin, Wyo. though the family moved to Leesburg when she was a young girl.

She spent much of her childhood in Leesburg and graduated from Leesburg High School with the class of 1955.

Dorothy was married to William Elliott July 16, 1974 in Virginia although their relationship blossomed for several years before they were united in marriage. Together the two share nearly fifty years and five children; William survives.

Dorothy had worked for many years at Dana-Weatherhead in Syracuse. Before her retirement, she had worked as the manager of several local Dollar General stores.

She loved humming birds, flowers of all kinds and riding horses – especially bareback, doing so until she was more than 60 years old. She had a “kooky” sense of humor and was kindhearted. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, William Elliott, Sr., Dorothy is survived by five children: Brian (Melissa) Grindle of Oswego; Tari Sue (Patrick) Blocher of North Webster; William (Tana) Elliott, Jr. of Etna Green; Bobbi (Jerry) Wood of Milford; and Amy (Charles) Bradley of Claypool; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and sister, Rosie (Billy) Carr of Ottawa, Ill. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

Friends may join family for a time of visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 in the funeral home. Pastor J.C. Sparks of The River Worship Center, Warsaw will officiate. Burial will be in Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, Indiana.

On May 26, 1931, Ridley was born in Baxter, Tenn., to Ridley L. and Armentia (Ritenbury) Brown Sr. and stepmother Osca Davis. He was united in marriage to Jaunita Campbell on July 1, 1950, in Warsaw.

In 1949, Ridley came to the Warsaw area. Ridley retired from Huffer Foundry, Warsaw, and was a member at God’s Highway to Heaven, Warsaw.

Ridley is survived by his two sons: Bob (Tanya) Brown, Warsaw; John (Rita) Brown, Warsaw; his sister: Marie (Opris) Flatt, Baxter, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two sons: Jerry; and Larry Brown; five sisters: Mamie Whitaker; Alice Whitaker; Ivy McBroom; Vergie Robinson; Eva Jackson; and a great-grandson: Griffin Douglas.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at God’s Highway to Heaven Church, Warsaw, with Reverend Bob Brown and Reverend Don Chadwick officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Visitation hours will be held from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at the church.

Joseph ‘Darrell’ Andres-UPDATED

joseph-darrell-andresJoseph Darrell Andres, known by most as “Darrell,” passed away quietly on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, in his Warsaw home. Darrell was born on Feb. 27, 1965, in Carencro, La. Born into a large family, he was the son of James Davis Andres and Eunice (Roy) Andres who preceded him in passing.

Darrell attended Carencro High School in Carencro, La.; he spent much of his childhood in nearby Lafayette.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator in both paving and construction. This work eventually led him to jobs in Florida and Indiana where he eventually made his home.

On Aug. 10, 2012, he was married to Sarah McFarland whom he had taken an interest in years earlier. She survives in Warsaw. Darrell liked to fish and loved to cook; even earning the nickname “cook” from his friends and family as he was known for his delicious foods – especially his Creole specialties. He was kind, gentle and always smiling. He loved to dance, laugh and enjoyed picking on people. Above all, Darrell was a great father who loved his daughters and family.

In addition to his wife: Sarah, those left behind to cherish his memory include two daughters: Kattie McFarland; and Maddisen McFarland, both of Warsaw; five siblings: Pauline Andres; David Andres; Edward Louis Andres; Linda Lemella; Janet Andres; and Chad Celistine, all from Louisiana; and a large extended family. Those who preceded him in death include his parents: James and Eunice Andres; and five siblings: Beverly Godbold; Melva Angelle; Lisa Andres; Diane Roy; and Melven Andres.

A visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home, beginning at 3 p.m. Bishop Jeff Walters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Warsaw Ward will officiate.

William M. ‘Bill’ Hyde Sr.

william-m-bill-hyde-srWilliam M. “Bill” Hyde Sr., 76, Warsaw, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2016, at his home. He was born Feb. 26, 1940, in Warsaw to Bruce Sr. and Isabella (Blodgette) Hyde. William married Janet Geller on Oct. 30, 1965; she survives.

Bill honorably served in the United States Army and retired from Warsaw Foundry where he worked for many years. He enjoyed being outside whether it was fishing, hunting, boating or camping. He enjoyed racing at the Warsaw Speedway, but most of all loved his kids and family.

Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years: Janet; five children: Melvin (Kathy) Jordan, California; Sue Thomas, Warsaw; William N. (Janice) Hyde Jr., Pierceton; William M. (Dawn) Hyde, Sydney; and Jeanette (Larry) Wood, Warsaw; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother: Bruce (Sharon) Hyde Jr., Warsaw; three sisters: Esther Zimmerman, Palestine; Glina Wood, Warsaw; and Jean (Bob) Campbell, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Kaleb; two brothers; and two sisters.

No services are planned at this time.
