Viora N. Harshbarger

Viora N. Harshbarger, 98, Warsaw, passed away 6:35 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, at Brookdale Senior Living, Valparaiso. Viora was born on Oct. 25, 1922 in Hammond, Indiana to Harold and Francis (Prohl) Zuver. She was united in marriage to Gilbert F. Harshbarger on June 6, 1941 in Hammond, who passed away March 23, 2015.

Viora was a graduate of Hammond High School. She was an assistant kindergarten teacher at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw, as well as an accomplished seamstress, baker, and homemaker.

Viora is survived by children, Susan M. (Ronald) Kostrzeba, Mark (Kathy) Harshbarger; grandchildren, James Yocum, Dr. Kenin  (Alan Rosolowski) Krieger, Kerisa (Robert) Shiflett, Jeremy Kostrzeba, Terri (Sam Smith) Verbeeran, Kimberly A Copeland, Doug (Jodi) Harshbarger, Kerry (Bruce) Johnson and Shelly (Andy) Knepp. Also surviving are 22 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by husband, Gilbert Harshbarger, and a daughter Judy Triezenberg.

A public visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.  Funeral service and Interment will be private with Reverend Galen Drawbaugh officiating the services.

Due to current COVID-19 recommendations, masks are required. The public is kindly requested to provide their own. Social distancing is strongly encouraged.

Marilyn Sue Williams

Marilyn Sue Williams, formerly of Winona Lake, passed away at 4:25 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community in Franklin, at the age of 87.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1933, in Richmond, to Iva Belle (Wantland) Kelly and William Aaron Kelly. On Sept. 13, 1953, she was married to Carl Edward Williams. They raised three children and shared 62 years of marriage together before he passed away on June 16, 2015.

Marilyn attended two years at Indiana University and worked for many years in Personnel at United Telephone Company. She and her late husband were residents of Kosciusko County, since 1970, where they were longtime members of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Warsaw. Marilyn was a member of the Warsaw Tri-Kappa chapter and was a devoted Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for many years, She enjoyed reading and playing Bridge with various groups of friends. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter: Sharon Williams, Columbus; grandson: Zachary Williams (Los Angeles, California); and her granddaughter: Kaelin Hanrattie, Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and her two sons, Bradley and Brian Williams.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Marilyn’s life with a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw, Indiana. Visitation will be held prior to the graveside service at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Stephen J. Frush

Stephen J. Frush

Stephen J. Frush, 64, Warsaw, passed away at 5:11 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Steve was born Aug. 29, 1956, in Warsaw, to Donald Rulo and Carol Ellen (Long) Frush.

He was a Warsaw Community High School graduate of 1975. Steve proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  He was employed by Zimmer, Inc. retiring in February of 2018 as a polisher.  He was a longtime member of the Warsaw YMCA, along with other fitness organizations, winning several body building trophies.  He was an avid Harley and dirt bike rider.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his dog Abby and cat Mickey.

Steve is survived by daughter, Maralee Frush, Muncie; mother, Carol (Lanny) Ellis, Warsaw; siblings, Michael (Pam) Frush, Bloomfield, Kathleen (Tony) Perry, Warsaw, and Jennifer (Scott) Hoeppner, Prosper, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Frush.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with a graveside service following at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating.

Lenord Nicholson

Lenord E. Nicholson Sr., 78, Warsaw, passed away at 9:55 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, in Warsaw at Kosciusko Community Hospital.

Born to Frank O.S. and Dorothea A. (Christensen) Nicholson on July 9, 1942 in Sicklerville, N.J., Lenord spent much of his early life on the east coast. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter for the Waterford New Jersey Fire Department.

For the past twenty-six years, his family has made their home in Warsaw where he was a longtime member of Touch of Life Church. He enjoyed family time and liked many types of food. He loved the Lord and helping around the church. He also enjoyed music and dancing, even appearing on American Bandstand in his youth. He was retired from Kimble Glass (Owens-Illinois).

On June 8, 1963, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Gross; she preceded him in passing as did a daughter-in-law, Annette “Netters”; and his brothers: Frank, Carl, Happy, Johnny and an infant brother. He is survived by three children: sons, Mikey and Lenord Jr.(Wendy) and daughter, Barb (Andy) – all of Warsaw; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three sisters: Christine “Chris,” Janice and Kathy.

Titus Funeral Home is assisting the family. Friends may join them at Touch of Life Church, 2339 W Old Rd 30, Warsaw on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until the Noon service. Pastor Rick Cooper will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Claudia Sue Loy

Claudia Sue Loy, 82, Douglasville, Ga., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at Wellstar Paulding Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born on June 10, 1938, in Alexandria, Ind., to her late parents, Harry and Dersie Buckles. Claudia worked in the music industry and owned her own music store for over 30 years in Indiana. After she retired and moved to Georgia, Sue joined New Genesis Baptist Church and was a faithful member for many years. Mrs. Loy was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Loy; and her son, Randall Loy.

Mrs. Loy is survived by her daughter, Lorie Conley and her husband, Terry, in Douglasville, Ga.; brothers: Richard Buckles, of Florida; Harry Buckles, of Indiana; sister, Elaine McDaniel, of Colorado; grandchildren: Lukas Conley, of Douglasville, Ga.; and Adam Conley, of Douglasville, Ga.

Mrs. Loy will have a visitation on Friday, Oct. 30 at Clark Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m. A memorial service for Mrs. Loy will be held on Nov. 21 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel, Warsaw,  at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the memorial service at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, on Nov. 21.

The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the state’s COVID-19 restrictions. No more than 50 people are allowed inside the funeral home at one time. If attending the visitation, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mrs. Loy safe.

Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, Ga., is in charge of the arrangements.

Cliff Prater

Clifford “Cliff” Prater, 76, Warsaw, passed away at 4:20 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Cliff was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Virgile “Press” and Pearlie (Adams) Prater.

He was born and raised in Kentucky, moving to Warsaw in 1960. Cliff had a passion for household auctions and enjoyed gardening. He was employed at Rozella Ford, Holiday Inn, and was a security guard for 26 years for Dalton Foundry.

Cliff is survived by children, Dana Shell, Warsaw, Dan (Chih Ka Yang) Spangle of Honolulu, Hawaii; sisters, Juanita Shepherd, Genevia Bayne, Phyllis (Greg) Varney, Mary Prater, Barbara (Darrell) Prater all of Warsaw; brothers, Ronald Prater, Warsaw, Arnold (Amy) Prater of Silver Lake.  In addition, he is survived by sister-in-law, Judy Prater, lifelong friend, Alan Heeter, 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one nephew.

A visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Reverend Bob Brown will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Clara G. Roberts, 81, Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, in Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. Clara was born April 3, 1939, in Pierceton, to Walter and Mildred (Steiner) Baker. She was united in marriage to Jesse Roberts on October 20, 1996, in Warsaw.

Clara worked in housekeeping at Kosciusko Community Hospital, retiring in 1996 with 14 years of service.

Clara is survived by husband, Jesse Roberts, Warsaw; daughters, Kathy (Randy) Garris-Marshall, of Warsaw, Deb (Mark) Alexander, of Warsaw; grandchildren, Christopher, Heidi, Donnie, Kasey, Haley, Holly, Brian and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother, Larry Baker.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, with Pastor Lewis Wedstel Shepherd officiating at the Funeral Chapel.  Interment will follow at Cook’s Chapel Cemetery, Warsaw.

Karen Kay Winter

Karen Kay Winter, 73, formerly of Elkhart and Warsaw, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at Bell Tower Health and Rehabilitation Center in Granger.

Karen was the fourth of 11 children born to Elmer and Vera Charles Peters on July 25, 1947, in Goodland, Kan.

She is survived by a son, Ryan Winter; two daughters: Melinda (Dan) Kutz; and  Kimberly (Rick) Campbell; as well as 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her eight siblings: Phyllis (Harvey) Zweygardt; Erma Atkins; Larry “Pete” Peters; Roger Peters; Vickie (Don) Engel; Rod (Rita) Peters; Rick (Cindy) Peters; and Randy (Becky) Peters; and also numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Terry and Ken Peters.

Karen retired from the Franger Gas Co. in Elkhart after 30 years of service as the office manager. Karen was a member of the Warsaw TOPS #112, Warsaw Women’s Life Insurance Society C-21 and enjoyed collecting angels. Most of all, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her life.

Services celebrating the life of Karen Kay Winter will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, where friends and family may gather from noon until the service time at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Mickey Winter will officiate. Cremation was chosen and will follow the service.

Jean Kerlin

Jean Kerlin, formerly of Warsaw, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at Parkview Wabash Hospital in Wabash, Indiana at the age of 89. She was a past resident of Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake and a current resident of Timbercrest Senior Living Community in North Manchester.

She was born on April 23, 1931, in Marion, Indiana to Edith (Deeter) Ryan and Joseph Franklin Ryan. On June 30, 1956, in Zionsville, Indiana she was married to Ed Kerlin. They shared 58 years of marriage together and raised two daughters before he passed away on May 29, 2015.

She was a 1949 graduate of Central High School in North Manchester. She graduated from Manchester College with a Bachelor’s degree in education, and later she earned her Master’s degree from Ball State University. Jean taught in schools in Laketon, Silver Lake and Akron.

She was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church in Warsaw. One of her favorite things to do was to sing in the church choir. She had a heart to serve and help others and for many years she drove cancer patients for their treatments. She was a proud hospice volunteer for 21 years for Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice. She received the honor of the Kosciusko County Community Foundation’s Heart of Gold award. Norma Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Cindy (Cliff) Zehr, Silver Lake; Lora (Ron) Ogden, Roann; four grandchildren: Melanie Zehr and spouse Erin Korreck and Sara Zehr; Brittany and Emily Ogden; and her great-grandchildren: Tripp Zehr Korreck and Kagan Joy Korreck. She also leaves behind her sister: Shirly Griffey, Wabash. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Jean’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at Lakeview Cemetery of Silver Lake, and officiated by Pastor Lewis Wedstel Shepherd. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Drew Alec Smith, 30, Warsaw, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at his home. He was born on Jan. 25, 1990, in Goshen, to Teia A. Smith and Troy Workman.

He graduated in 2008 from high school in Star Valley, WY and moved to the Warsaw in 2009. He was employed at Texas Roadhouse in Warsaw and formerly worked at NAPA in Nappanee.

He is survived by his mother and step-father: Teia and Mark Barber of Beaver Dam, Ariz.; father: Troy Workman of Nappanee; brother: Derric (Samantha) Smith of Goshen; maternal grandmother: Lois Smith of Goshen

No services will be held. Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 15, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.

Julia Stokes

Julia “Judy” A. Stokes, 83, Warsaw, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, in Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Judy was born Oct. 8, 1937, in Fort Wayne, to Don and Maxine (Darrow) Arnold. She was united in marriage to Robert Stokes on April 5, 1958.

She was born and raised in Fort Wayne and lived the remainder of her life in the Warsaw area. Judy was a cook at Mentone School. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and was well known to be totally dedicated to her family above all.

Judy is survived by husband, Robert Stokes, Warsaw; children, Tammy (Jeff) Virgil, Etna Green, Tim (Pat) Stokes, Mich., Sheryl Hanna, Warsaw, Shelly (Steve) Poling, Warsaw, Todd (Sherry) Stokes, Ill., Shawn (Elizabeth) Stokes, Elkhart, Joel Stokes, Warsaw.  In addition, she is survived by 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren with one on the way: brother, Gregg (Cindy) Arnold, Mich, brother-in-law, Gary Pickett, Fort Wayne.  She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Mark “Buckwheat” Hanna, grandson, Travis Perney, one brother, Terry Arnold, three sisters, Pat Pribernow, Marsha Banks, and Debbie Pickett..

Interment will be at a later date.  McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with all arrangements.

Gloria J. Miller

Gloria J. Miller

Gloria J. Miller passed away on Nov. 2, 2020, after a sudden and brief illness. She was 96 years young.

The daughter of Glen and Sylvia Witmer, she spent her childhood in the greater North Webster community and graduated from North Webster High School in the summer of 1942. She worked for a time during the war in the cash office at Wolf and Dessauer Department Store while living in Fort Wayne. She was married on Oct. 23, 1943, to her late husband, Basil Miller (or Bud as he was known at the Warsaw Automotive NAPA store) and lived her entire adult life on the family farm in the West Etna community of northwest Whitley County.

It was just a few years ago that a neighbor reported seeing her dragging a snapping turtle off the road with a big stick in front of her farmhouse. She had in the last couple years moved into a local assisted living facility. 

She was for decades a member of West Etna Community Church, Backwaters Friends Homemakers Club, and annually organized the reunion alumni dinner for the Class of ‘42.  By the age of 21 she had experienced the Great Depression, her mother dying, her childhood home burning to the ground, a teenage cancer scare, and World War II. Yet she lived a long life that took in everything from horse and buggies, to moon landings, to the Internet and cell phones.  

She is survived by three children: Victoria Ringgenberg, Warsaw; Doug Miller, Concord area of New Hampshire; and Paul Miller, Bryan, Tex.; five grandchildren: Pamela (Ringgenberg) Ridenour (Mike), Elkhart; Stephanie (Ringgenberg) Brunner (Mark), Wauwatosa, Wis.; Brian Miller (Stephanie Ueng), San Francisco, Calif.; Drew Miller (Lisa McCandless), San Francisco, Calif.; and Nate Miller (Jessica) of Seattle, Wash; five great-grandchildren: Jordan Kistler (Rachel), Elkhart; Hannah Kistler, Pierceton; Hamilton Miller and Ansel Miller, San Francisco, Calif.; and Caden Miller, Seattle, Wash.; a sister: Glenna (Ivan) Werstler, Pierceton; and many nephews, nieces and loved in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son-in-law: Kerry Ringgenberg; a daughter-in-law: Betsy Miller; and three sisters: Zelpha Ginter, Lucille Keck, and Ruth Sauers.   

A private family graveside service will take place in the Pleasant Grove (Snodgrass) Cemetery. Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Hoskins

Nancy Hoskins, 86, Warsaw, passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center of Warsaw.

She was born on Dec. 24, 1933, in Manchester, Ky. to Beve and Cassie (Bundy) Crawford.

Nancy was a resident of Kosciusko County, for the past 65 years. She enjoyed many things throughout her life but always remained a true fan of Kentucky basketball even after moving to Indiana. She loved reading, enjoyed quilting and spent many enjoyable hours working on her countless crossword puzzles. Nancy was never shy about her love of dancing and even more so her love for her children and grandchildren. She will always be forever loved and remembered as a great mother and loving grandmother.  Nancy will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She leaves behind two daughters:  Joyce (Jim) Rose, Warsaw; Tina Beatty, Cicero; four grandchildren:  Bethany Brower, Nicole (Nathan) Schickel, Alison Beatty and Scott Beatty; and two great-grandchildren: Nora and Nina. Also surviving is her brother:  Ronnie (Joyce) Crawford, Manchester, Ky.; and her sister:  Ruby Hensley, Manchester, Ky.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Nancy’s life will be celebrated with a public graveside service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw, and officiated by Ken Locke.  Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Miotto, age 69, of Warsaw, Indiana, who passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020 at 11:25 a.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne with pending funeral arrangements. David W. Granger

David W. Granger, 71, of Leesburg, went to be with his lord and savior Nov. 2, 2020, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on July 3, 1949, in Brighton, Mich., the son of the late Mary and Pastor Vern Granger. He was the eldest of six siblings.

On July 29, 1972, he married Diane Gall, who survives. A graduate of Prairie Bible College, Alberta, Canada, David studied music theory and youth ministry.  He served as a bus driver for Syracuse school corporation for 30 years retiring in 2017.

David was never without a project or adventure to keep him active. A few of his many hobbies were racing, breeding and training sulky horses;  a classic car collector and enthusiast, and continuing throughout his life he was an active member of the gospel quartets: The Royal Sons, and The Followers.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law Daren and Andrea Granger of Warsaw, son and daughter in law Dallas and Kathleen Granger of Carmel.  Grandchildren, Matilda and Magnus Granger of Warsaw, and Austin and Madelyn Granger of Carmel. Siblings Diane and husband Richard Cook of Elkhart, brother Daniel and wife Jane Granger of Elkhart, sister Jeanette and husband Tom Lantz of Syracuse, brother John and wife Deb Granger of Constantine, MI, sister Linda and husband Jeff Kercher of Goshen, brother Vern (Bud) and wife Jeanette Granger of Constantine, MI.  Father in law Jim Gall.  Sister in law Collen and husband Brad Arnsdorf.

David was preceded in death by his son Deven D. Granger, mother and father Vern and Mary Granger, and mother in law Wilma Jean Gall.

A viewing will be held from 11-1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, with a funeral service at 1 p.m., immediately followed with a graveside committal at the Hepton Union Church, 9266 W. Hepton Union Rd. Nappanee. The family has requested respectfully that all in attendance wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hepton Union Church.  Eastlund Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
