John F. Smith, 77, Warsaw, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, June 4, in his Warsaw home.
He was born March 19, 1938, in Mentone to Roy and Bertha (Holderman) Smith. John was a 1956 graduate of Mentone High School, Mentone. He married Gelenia Diane Young on Dec. 3, 1979, Warsaw. He was a lifetime Kosciusko County resident. He retired in 1994 as a electrical mechanic for C and I and Medtronic, after 21 years.
He was a past trustee of VFW Men’s Auxiliary Post 1126; past trustee of Eagles; member of Kosciusko County Saddle Club and known to horse people as grandpa Smith; past director of Francis Slocum Trail Riders; shuffleboard player; loved camping and playing computer games.
John is survived by his wife: Gelenia Smith, Warsaw; two sons: John Stephen (Laura) Smith, Sandwich, Ill.; Bruce A. Smith, Warsaw; daughter: Melissa (Tom) Sorg, Kimmel; two stepdaughters: Desiree (Darcy) Whetstone, Etna Green; Ramona (Robert) Peterson, Warsaw; stepson: Steven (Penny) Thomas, Warsaw; sister: Carol (Mike) Engle, Pierceton; brother: Charles (Diane) Smith, Claypool; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Walter Smith; and a sister: Wanda Smith.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw. Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, following visitation at Titus Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Jarboe, Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, officiating.
